👁️ February is Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) Awareness Month
AMD is a common eye condition that can quietly affect central vision as we age, often without early symptoms. Regular comprehensive eye exams play a critical role in detecting changes early and protecting long-term sight.
If you’re over 50 or have a family history of AMD, now is a great time to prioritize your eye health!
📞Call us to schedule your comprehensive eye exam today.

January is Glaucoma Awareness Month👁️
Glaucoma can quietly damage vision long before symptoms appear. Because changes often happen slowly and without pain, many people do not realize their sight is being affected until vision loss has already occurred.
The good news? Regular, comprehensive eye exams can help detect glaucoma early, when treatment is most effective. Protecting your vision starts with routine eye care.
Call our office today to schedule your comprehensive eye exam!

✨ Keeping Holidays Bright & Vision Safe ✨
As you wrap up your gift lists, remember that certain toys (especially those that shoot projectiles) are responsible for roughly 10% of ER eye injuries in children!
The American Academy of Ophthalmology also reminds families to take care when opening champagne this New Year’s. A flying cork can cause serious eye damage!
Small precautions can make a big difference. 💙🎁

Great Lakes Eye Care (originally called Great Lakes Eye Clinic) was established in 1987 to provide for the diagnosis and treatment of eye conditions and diseases in people, as well as normal preventive eye care for the community of Southwest Michigan.
We are a practice consisting of 8 ophthalmologist and 2 optometrists who are augmented by a large, select, and highly trained staff. We deliver personalized care in kind, compassionate ways, always with the patient's best interests in mind. Our up-to-date training and state-of-the-art equipment is matched by modern, comfortable facilities in St. Joseph, Niles, South Haven, and a recently opened Mishawaka office (retinal service only)!
Office visits are by appointment only. We make every effort to schedule your appointment as soon as practical. During the business day and after hours, emergencies will receive priority status.
Great Lakes Eye Care provides a large service department for your individual eye-care needs. We are open during our normal hours and are well prepared for most eye-wear repairs or adjustments you might need.
Certain occupational and recreational activities require special options in eye-wear. We can provide expert advice for these special situations. For example, eye-wear for activities like sport shooting, racquetball, or fishing each have different characteristics that are customized in different ways beyond the normal pair of glasses.
We also provide direct shipping of contacts to your home with a valid prescription for existing patients. We make every effort to be a full-service eye care practice.
Our staff participates in many community-building activities outside of the office. Some of these activities include:
Providing primary eye care in poor or underdeveloped areas of the world. We do this because it is our nature to care about people. Some information on these activities may be accessed through this website.
Through Vision Outreach International, we have had the opportunity to travel to many countries including: Kenya, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, China, Indonesia, Honduras and Guatemala.
