October marks Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a time to shed light on the issue of intimate partner violence and to stand with survivors.

On Thursday, October 30, Mosaic partnered with the YWCA for a series of education sessions called "In Her Shoes." This event was an immersive, in-person simulation that explores the difficult choices individuals face when experiencing domestic violence. By stepping into the shoes of a survivor, participants make decisions that highlight the often impossible and overwhelming realities of domestic violence.

Due to space, this event was only available to Mosaic caregivers this year with the exception of one session that included members of the Sexual Assault and Domestic Assault Response Teams. These teams includes multidisciplinary team members from various law enforcement agencies in the area, prosecutor’s office, Mosaic nurses and others.

Sheih Moore, PCA, from the Rapid Observation Care Unit at Mosaic Life Care at St. Joseph, Medical Center, was honored with the Sunflower Award this week. 🌻 Sheih was nominated by a patient’s family member. Her nomination reads:

“When my father was admitted on Friday, July 25, he was blessed to have some amazing nurses and techs. The one that stands out to me the most is Sheih. Sheih was one of the best caregivers my dad had. She was professional, very knowledgeable, attentive to my dad’s needs, and was quick to respond to his needs. She was very caring and professional in her actions. Sheih has kept in contact with me checking on my dad every day since in her care. She has also come to visit my dad in the room he is in now. We feel that Sheih has become part of our family. I told her that God brought her into my family’s life when He knew we would need her. God bless Sheih! We love her so much and she deserves more praise than my family and I alone could provide. My family and I would gladly welcome her to take care of my dad anytime.”

Congratulations to our recent Daisy Award recipient, London Day, RN, from the Cardiovascular Thoracic Unit, Mosaic Life Care at St. Joseph, Medical Center. 🌼 London received three total nominations.

“Above and beyond nurse. She pampered me. She talked, sat down, acted like a friend instead of a nurse, more than once, every day. She braided my hair, very positive and took control of the problem very calmly."

Coffee for a Cure 2025 was the biggest yet! 🙌 Thank you to all who participated — you raised 💰💰💰 $19,294.43 which after the match from the Mosaic Life Care Auxiliary totals $38,588.86. All those funds stays local for those battling breast cancer in our service area. 🎀

Fourth of July weekend includes celebration of American freedom but can also be one of the busiest times for hospital emergency rooms (ER) and urgent cares (UC). First off, we encourage you to practice fireworks safety, water safety and so on, but if you do have an accident or injury, below is a short list of whether to visit the ER or the UC.

Visit the Emergency Department for:

🔹 Burns on the face, hands or feet
🔹 Chest pain or pressure could indicate signs of a heart attack
🔹 Deep or large cuts that involve muscle or bone
🔹 Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
🔹 Drowning and near-drowning incidents
🔹 Head injuries that cause a loss of consciousness or confusion
🔹 Heat-related illnesses
🔹 Severe allergic reactions
🔹 Signs of a stroke
🔹 Uncontrolled bleeding that doesn't stop with pressure

Visit Urgent Care for:

🔸 Cold or flu symptoms, including a sore throat, cough or mild fever
🔸 Ear or eye infections
🔸 Food poisoning, nausea, vomiting or diarrhea without signs of dehydration
🔸 Urinary tract infections
🔸 Minor cuts, burns or sprains
🔸 Minor back pain
🔸 Skin rashes or insect bites that aren't spreading
