Capping off Earth Week 2026, students from Portage Area High School worked to complete their annual clean up around Portage. Forest Hills Area EMS was proud to provide a crew for EMS standby coverage for this cleanup detail as a large group of these students worked to clean
up the Crichton McCormick Park. This included a cleanup and building of small dams in the trout stream, Kane Run, which is maintained by Traditional Anglers of Pennsylvania, Portage, and made available to provide opportunities for our youth to get out and enjoy fishing and the outdoors. Thank you all for your hard work and dedication to our community helping to make it more beautiful and enjoyable for all of us!

Today one of our crews was honored to stop by and wish Portage resident, George Alexander, a very happy 105th birthday!

Mr. Alexander was a member of the US Army 84th Infantry Division, 1st Armored Battalion. He bravely fought in the Battle of the Bulge under the command of General Patton.

Over the years many of our crew members have become familiar with Mr. Alexander and have always enjoyed the many stories he has shared, from the war to life in general. Also, at 105 George is still sharp as a tack with no sign of slowing down!

If you see or talk to this incredible man today make sure to wish him a very Happy Birthday!

We were proud to host the Boy Scouts this past weekend as they worked toward earning their First Aid Merit Badge. Their enthusiasm, teamwork, and willingness to learn were truly impressive! It's always an honor to support the next generation as they build skills that make a real difference in our communities. Pictured are the Scouts from Troop 98 out of Ebensburg and Paramedic Supervisor Marcus Whiteford.

At Forest Hills Area EMS, we are committed to serving every member of our community with compassion, understanding, and respect. Autism Awareness Month is an opportunity to recognize and support individuals on the autism spectrum and their families.

As first responders, we understand that every interaction matters. We continue to educate and train our crews to better communicate, respond, and provide care in ways that meet the unique needs of those with autism.

A few ways we can all make a difference:
• Practice patience and understanding
• Be mindful of sensory sensitivities

Together, we can build a safer, more supportive environment for everyone.

Today, one of our crews spent the day at the Portage Senior Activity Center providing blood pressure screenings and general wellness checks. It was a great opportunity to connect with members of the community, offer preventative care, and answer health-related questions.

We’re proud to support the health and well-being of our residents and always appreciate the chance to get out and serve beyond emergency response.

Thanks again to the Lions and our communities!
