✨✨✨How doulas provide essential support during pregnancy and childbirth✨✨✨

Pregnancy and childbirth are transformative experiences that affect birthing parents physically, emotionally and mentally. While family, friends and health care providers can be valuable sources of information and advice, doulas can provide additional support and expertise that can greatly benefit both parent and baby.

A doula is a nonclinical person trained to provide families and birthing people with educational, emotional, and physical support before, during, and after birth. They also encourage self-advocacy to ensure the birthing person’s needs and wishes are met, increasing the likelihood of a positive pregnancy and birth experience.

A doula works exclusively for you, not the hospital or the health care provider, though they can act as a liaison between you and both entities. Some additional services doulas can provide include:

-Providing emotional and physical support during labor and birth
-Helping you create a birth plan, a tool used to communicate your birth preferences to your care team
-Helping you uncover the questions and matters you want to discuss with your health care provider
-Supporting and advocating for your choices
-Discussing pain management preferences

Hello Followers!!

Hope you’re doing well! I’m reaching out personally as a board member of The Childbirth Collective.

We’re raising mutual aid funds to support pregnant, birthing, and postpartum families in the Twin Cities who’ve been impacted by recent immigration enforcement.

Many families are postponing care out of fear, while community-based doulas, midwives, and grassroots organizations—many of them multilingual and BIPOC—are carrying a tremendous load to keep families supported.

This fund supports trusted, long-standing community partners providing that care in real time.

I know there are so many asks right now, so truly no pressure. But if you’d like to support our goal of raising $5,000 for local families, you can contribute at the link below or help spread the word by sharing it with others.

I thank you for your time and consideration!

Curious about your baby’s position? Ask your provider if they can tell you! There are positions that are more optimal for childbirth and things you can do to give baby room to move!

Ever wonder what your provider is talking about in regards to baby's position? OP, OA, LOA? Here is an awesome graphic by Mother Willow Prenatal that explains where in the uterus your baby is hanging out.

Some people mistake doulas for midwives, do you know the difference?

Doulas and midwives are NOT the same- but they are both so important with what they offer!
There are also postpartum doulas, who provide support to new parents after baby arrives, as well as bereavement doulas, who support parents who are expecting a loss, or experience a loss.
