Project Pathfinder Inc

Project Pathfinder Inc We provide a continuum of prevention services to prevent sexual abuse. As an agency, we view treatment in a holistic context.

Philosophy of Treatment

Our philosophy is that sexually abusive behavior is treatable and preventable. Project Pathfinder is the only nonprofit organization in Minnesota that focuses on the entire continuum of sexual abuse prevention. We teach adults how to intervene to stop abuse before it happens and treat harmful sexual behaviors so it never happens again. At Project Pathfinder, we view a sexually abusive act as an interpersonal violation and as a symptom of underlying psychosocial dysfunction. In adults, the commission of a sexual offense is not an accident; it is the result of a decision to offend. Those engaging in abusive behavior are expected to admit responsibility for the offense and its consequences, and make changes to stop the abusive cycle. In children and youth, sexually abusive behavior is viewed as a symptom of underlying emotional, relational, or environmental stress. We work with our clients to develop effective behavior management skills and to resolve the underlying issues that allowed the offense to happen. We emphasize developing meaningful and rewarding interpersonal relationships and a socially healthy and appropriate lifestyle. Our therapeutic process addresses the client’s total needs – psychological, social, physical, and spiritual. History

Project Pathfinder started as an adult sexual behavior treatment program at HealthEast in 1989, and incorporated as an independent nonprofit agency in 1992. Today, PPI is one of the largest nonprofit organizations in Minnesota that provides a full spectrum of prevention programming, including community education, as well as treatment of sexual offenders in order to assist them in recognizing and addressing unhealthy behaviors so they learn to live honorable and decent lives.

We have answers to common questions people ask about treatment for individuals who have committed a sexual offense.

A popular question people ask is: Are all people who offend sexual abuse victims themselves?

The answer is: No; however, based on self-reports, it is estimated that 20-30% were sexually abused themselves (Hanson & Slater, 1988).

This is your reminder to take care of your mental health.

Today’s tip to boost your mental health is: Boost brainpower by treating yourself to a couple of pieces of dark chocolate every few days. The flavonoids, caffeine, and theobromine in chocolate are thought to work together to improve alertness and mental skills.

The impact of sexual abuse extends far beyond the individual survivor. It can affect families, communities, and society as a whole.

There are a variety of available resources to those who have been impacted by sexual abuse. Some examples are:

1. Counseling and therapy: Professional mental health support to process and heal from the trauma of sexual abuse.
2. Support groups: Safe spaces where survivors of sexual abuse can connect with others who have had similar experiences and share their stories.
3. Hotlines: Confidential support and resources, such as such as the National Sexual Assault Hotline (1-800-656-HOPE) or RAINN (R**e, Abuse & In**st National Network), for survivors available over the phone, text, or online chat.
4. Legal assistance: Legal support to understand survivors' rights and options for seeking justice.
5. Medical care: Medical professionals who can provide care for physical injuries and testing for sexually transmitted infections.
6. Advocacy and activism: Resources for survivors who want to get involved in advocacy and activism efforts to prevent sexual abuse and support survivors.

Let's work together to prevent sexual abuse and support those who have been impacted by it. Find out more about Project Pathfinder's work at https://projectpathfinder.org/.
