Where it started…

I don’t remember ever eating at a KFC restaurant back in my home country, but I passed by the one in Session Road, Baguio City many times, which made me think of the fried chicken more than the state 😁 Incidentally, while traveling through Kentucky I-75, I saw the billboard indicating the birthplace of KFC and quickly thought I was not going to just pass by—even though it meant a loss of travel time. Thankfully, I was able to convince my driver to take the next exit (11+ miles away) and turn around 😁

And so I read about the founder, Colonel Sanders – the story goes that he experienced overwhelming rejections and many setbacks in his early undertakings. One would think that some of these were due to his own faults because he was known as hot-headed and never backed down from a fight. It’s noted that as a lawyer, he engaged in a brawl with his own client inside a courtroom, and was also fired from other jobs related to insubordination. There are more about him – but lifting yet the obvious positive, he made it big with KFC in his sixties because of persistence.

From the tiny town of Corbin, Kentucky, the restaurant chain now has over 25,000 outlets in 147 countries worldwide.

I always wanted to explore St. Louis, Missouri, especially the Gateway Arch National Park, commonly referred to as the Gateway to the West. But maybe next time… because during a recent stop, the temperature outside was freezing, and my tolerance to cold was only good for making a few steps from my car to King’s Diner. By the way, at King’s, the food came quickly and tasted very good — #ļøāƒ£k

WHERE THERE’S SMOKE šŸ’Ø THERE’S…

Because our area on earth hides early from the sun at this time of the year, I left work earlier to beat that, one afternoon this midweek— I made sure I was able to see the sign as I drove around😁 and yes I found the KALINGA smoker’s zone in Apple Valley, MN.

Highly recommended! Perfectly smoked brisket, pork, ETAG, and more… yummylicious all! And there’s free taste if you also take a time off work to stop by 😁otherwise, you can text/call orders and will be delivered/mailed to your doorstep šŸ‘

Church of Hallgrimur is a Lutheran parish church in Reykjavik. It is the largest church in Iceland, and among the tallest structures in the country. It took 41 years to complete the building (1945-1986). Plus, with its distinctive features, it has become an important symbol of national identity.

It is 244 feet tall— and there’s me - standing on tiptoes with outstretched arms/hands 😁

Did you know? Because I didn’t until…

When in Iceland, don’t buy bottled water! It’s a waste of money, and it’s not environmentally friendly. Just refill your bottle with water from any faucet in the country and you’ll be drinking some of the purest natural water in the world— for free! It’s a good thing I brought my water bottle and will bring home pure water šŸ’¦ Hello USA😁 šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡ø

Almost two decades ago, I was standing in-front of a consular officer at the Detroit International Airport where he remarked, ā€œSo you are from the Philippines and moving to Minnesota… in winter.ā€ It didn’t take the season to end for me to understand what he meant😁

This last weekend, I was facing another officer at the Keflavic International Airport, I am sure he didn’t say the words but I seem to have heard, ā€œSo you are from Minnesota and coming to Iceland… in winter.ā€ Did I really understand (or learned) anything from that encounter two decades back?😁
