As the Minnesota affiliate of NARR, we certify and promote homes aligned with national best practices and the ASAM continuum of care. The Minnesota Association of Sober Homes (MASH) was founded in 2007 to serve as the unified voice for recovery housing across Minnesota. As the state affiliate of the National Alliance for Recovery Residences (NARR), MASH certifies recovery residences that meet nati
onal NARR Quality Standards. These standards ensure:
• Safe, healthy, substance-free living environments
• Peer accountability and governance grounded in the Social Model of Recovery
• Structured support for building life skills and long-term wellness
• A strong Code of Ethics that prioritizes dignity and respect for all residents
MASH certification connects recovery housing operators with training, technical assistance, and peer support while offering families, providers, and communities assurance that certified homes meet the highest standards of care. With the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) now formally recognizing recovery residences as part of the continuum of care, MASH stands at the forefront of ensuring that sober living in Minnesota is ethical, evidence-based, and recovery-oriented. Our Mission: To promote safe, accountable, and supportive sober living environments in Minnesota through certification, education, and advocacy.
