Book club details!

Dates: Starting May 7th, continuing Thursdays biweekly for 6 weeks

Time: 5-6pm

Book: Atomic Habits by James Clear, preorder available through the story cellar the first week of April

Location: The Story Cellar

Snacks/light dinner provided for the first meeting with the option for members to rotate through bringing snacks for the remainder of meetings! 12 spots left!

Two weeks ago we met the boy who made us parents🫶🏼

Things that parenthood have already taught me:
🧸 slow down and take in every moment — the little noises, faces, grasping of his little fingers, and of course the cuddles
🧸be patient and responsive — every cry is communication of a need that can only be fulfilled by his parents. Food, diaper changes, and regulation. Without means to regulate on his own, he relies on us to calm his nervous system.
🧸 have a grateful mindset — the interrupted sleep, endless feedings, and diaper changes can be a lot. Remembering how grateful we are to have created life and get to love him make it a lot easier to say “I GET to do this for him” instead of “I HAVE to do this”

Services through the Hafferman Learning Center (HLC) will continue mid-April. For now, I’m soaking up all the cuddles! An interest form for services are available on the HLC website to be contacted when services open again.

Very grateful for being able to participate in last month’s mental health awareness event, Through A New Lens! It was great to see all the families come together to learn about the resources available for children’s mental health in our area.

I have a story to share that brings me close to tears.

Today after my tutoring session, I reflected back on a moment that surprised me in the best way possible.

When my first student hopped on Zoom today, (before I could say anything), she said “Hi Bailey, let’s get reading!” with a big magnifying glass covering one eye🔍👁️

I giggled and was a bit taken aback that this student who I didn’t know just a few months ago now feels safe enough be goofy with me! It warms my heart that I’m able to truly connect with my students and provide a space that they can be themselves, not afraid to be silly or make mistakes. To hear this student go from “I don’t like reading” to “let’s get reading” makes me so grateful and proud.

The brain learns (& rewires) through making mistakes. This is why creating a safe space for students to learn is a huge value I hold myself to at the Hafferman Learning Center!

Mugs & Motherhood was such a relaxing evening!
