Who knew how many people would get angry 😡 about my post a year ago. And on the anniversary of venting my frustrations with insurance company denials today I had yet another patient denied care by her insurance company for breast reconstruction. Is it a coincidence that her deductible has already been met and it’s the end of the year? Thankfully the hospital helped this patient get the care she needs.

A lot has happened in a year. We have built a community of people that are just over the insurance denials. And not only that. WE HAVE DONE SOMETHING ABOUT IT!

In just 12 months a major insurance company changed their policy to cover a mesh that many of us use as standard of care.

AND…

We have a piece of legislation to protect women with bipartisan support. Thank you so much to the for leading the way with this bill. It has been one of the greatest things I have had the honor of participating in. The ASPS is truly a society who cares for its surgeons and patients.

We have a long way to go. But the denial today is another reminder that my purpose right now is to help others both in and out of the operating room.

Thank you to my husband and daughter for the many nights on the phone in meetings and the time away while I talk to the leaders in plastic surgery who are also so very dedicated to this cause.

Here’s to 2026. I just know it’s going to be a great year of change.

Be honest. How many of you knew that gold paint explodes in the microwave? Well… I know one person who didn’t. I have taken care of literally hundreds of burns as a former burn fellow of a regional trauma burn center. Yet… here we are. Yes, gold paint is indeed metallic and should not be put into the microwave.

Which begs the question why the heck was in on a coffee cup?!
