Job Title: Allergy & Immunology Clinical Medical Technician
Open to: CCMA (Certified Clinical Medical Assistant) and LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) students and graduates of those programs.
Job Description: This is an opportunity for a candidate to grow both personally and professionally with our Allergy & Immunology outpatient private practice located in St. Petersburg, FL as a valued team member. The candidate will be able to make an immediate, meaningful impact in patient lives. We see a wide variety of patients with both allergic and immunologic conditions so it should be interesting cognitively.
The initial position is part time with the potential to become full time in the future. A candidate does not need to have prior Allergy & Immunology experience (though that's a plus) and we can train them. Prior experience with giving subcutaneous and intramuscular injections of any type (i.e. vaccinations) is also a plus but is not mandatory. The candidate must be BLS (basic life support) certified.
MEDICAL ASSISTANT DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Employee, under the direct supervision and responsibility of a licensed physician, shall perform the following duties:
1. Perform clinical procedures, to include:
a. Performing aseptic procedures.
b. Taking vital signs.
c. Preparing patients for the physicianâs care.
d. Performing venipunctures and non-intravenous injections.
e. Observing and reporting patientsâ signs or symptoms.
2. Administering basic first aid.
3. Maintaining emergency equipment and medication supply, including oxygen, code kit, suction, epinephrine, etc.
4. Performing allergy skin prick testing, intradermal skin testing and other allergy or immunology testing as ordered by physician.
5. Administering allergy injections and other injections as set forth on physician approved schedule.
6. Maintaining equipment, materials, supplies and extracts needed for skin testing and injections. 7. Performing breathing testing including spirometry, pulmonary function testing, fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO) testing and peak flow meter readings.
8. Monitoring patientsâ medical status for possible adverse reaction following skin testing, receipt of injections, etc.
9. Starting Intravenous Lines if needed and if scope of care permits this
10. Assisting with patient examinations or treatments.
11. Operating office medical equipment.
12. Collecting routine laboratory specimens as directed by the physician.
13. Administering medication as directed by the physician.
14. Completing medical refill requests and obtaining prior authorizations, if necessary. 15. Performing basic laboratory procedures.
16. Performing patient education when appropriate, including, but not limited to, instructing patients on the use of prescribed inhalers and nasal sprays.
17. Keeping exam rooms well stocked and clean.
18. Performing office procedures including all general administrative duties required by the physician, including, but not limited to:
a. Checking patients in and out.
b. Scheduling and rescheduling patient visits.
c. Gathering and documenting patient information.
d. Creating and maintaining patient records.
e. Answering patient-related telephone calls and written messages and responding according to clinical protocol.
f. Following up to obtain referrals and insurance authorization as requested and as needed. 19. Attending all regular meetings.
20. Demonstrating proper infection control measures.
Additional relevant Training will also include: i) Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996, as amended from time to time (HIPAA) training at a minimum of once per year or otherwise as prescribed by law ii) Cybersafety training iii) Fraud, Waste and Abuse training iv) Electronic Health Record (EHR) training v) Other training as otherwise may be designated from time to time, provided that the training is reasonable and customarily performed by a person holding a similar position in the industry or business of our clinic.
Skills: The candidate must be BLS (basic life support) certified; detail oriented; communicative; have a growth mindset/willingness to learn new concepts and tasks; ability to learn and use software systems efficiently; punctual; flexible.
Salary: Commensurate with experience
