February is Heart Month and our team members showed their passion for helping our cardiac patients earlier this month by wearing red. But throughout the entire month, our hospital is bathed in red light to bring attention to heart disease. Pete and Janelle, married physical therapists at the BayCare Carillon HealthHub and the St. Anthony's Resource Center respectively, were on a family ski vacation when he broke his forearm. The injury and subsequent surgery would keep him off work for a bit. Janelle has picked up some of Pete's patients which led her to ask if that was in their wedding vows. It's funny that she mentioned that because their 13th anniversary was approaching. So, Pete decided to hatch a plan with Zoltan, who is a physical therapist and an ordained minister. Near the end of a recent shift, Janelle noticed Pete wearing his wedding suit and carrying her veil and dried bouquet. Before those at the HealthHub knew it, they were in the middle of a vow renewal. They did the love, honor and cherish parts of the wedding vows. And then there was a special addendum just for Janelle: “And do you vow to cover his work shift if he happens to get hurt ... and can’t work for six weeks?” Zoltan asked. Without hesitation, Janelle said, “I do.” We wish Pete and Janelle and everyone a Happy Valentine's Day!

Our team members, physicians and volunteers are signing greeting cards to place on our patients' food trays on Valentine's Day. The cards are just one way our team demonstrates compassionate care for our patients who must be in the hospital for the holiday. ❤️

Last night, St Petersburg Chamber hosted its 127th Annual Meeting at the Vinoy. We’re proud that St. Anthony’s Hospital was a co-presenting sponsor of the event, and that St. Anthony’s Hospital President Scott Smith was recognized as the 2027 St. Pete Chamber of Commerce Chair-Elect!

Congratulations to Kimberly, a nurse on our med/surg overflow unit who recently was honored with a DAISY Foundation Award for going above and beyond to provide extraordinary care for a patient. Kimberly was able to help gently guide a patient's family though decisions about his care.

In a letter to the unit's nurse manager, the patient's sister -- a nurse herself -- said that Kimberly cared for her brother during the final three days of his hospital stay before he was moved to hospice. "I will never forget the grace and compassion she brought into our lives. She wasn’t just caring for a patient -- she was walking alongside a family in heartbreak. At one point, sensing my struggle, she gently said, 'It’s okay to be a sister right now. You don’t have to be a nurse.' That one sentence changed everything. It gave me permission to step out of my clinical role and simply be with my brother in his final days. That is a gift I will carry with me forever."

We thank Kimberly for the compassionate care she shows each day for our patients.

This is a relatively new to a wrap up of the holidays. Our St. Anthony's imaging team decided to play a prank on their manager, Jorge, and wrap everything in his office in Christmas wrapping paper. Jorge was a good sport, although he did decide to get to work instead of unwrapping everything. Well, as they say, that's a wrap!
