About us: Nokumbaya was created by three friends – Dr. Mike Nahrwold, Danell DeBerg and Bob Clark. Mike was a great doctor and better friend. Unfortunately, we lost Mike to cancer not long ago. We carry on with the work he was so passionate about with the help of his daughter Marny and son Dan, himself a medical doctor. For a number of reasons, we decided that the best way to continue our work was to create our own not-for-profit corporation and to get 501(c)(3) status from the I.R.S. This gives us substantial flexibility in our planning and allows for full tax deductibility for all of our generous donors. The current Board of Directors is composed of Danell DeBerg, Bob Clark, Dan Nahrwold, Dennis Griswold, and Mark Winn. and President. Every penny we raise goes to buying medications and providing medical care to the people who visit our clinics. We pay our own way; every member of a mission trip pays (or raises money for) his or her travel expenses, housing and food costs. A typical medical clinic is run by a staff of doctors, nurse practioners, nurses and lay volunteers. We set up stations for intake, vital signs, examination, laboratory, pharmacy, and optional prayer. We also have staff to control crowds and play with and entertain the children. In a week we will see and treat 400 to 500 patients. We document our work; each patient has a written record of his or her vitals, the notes of the doctor or nurse practioner, the medications prescribed and and follow-up.
