Alzheimers Research Foundation

Alzheimers Research Foundation The goal of Alzheimer’s Research Foundation is simple… TO FIND A CURE FOR ALZHEIMER’S.

Alzheimer’s is the most common form of dementia and currently affects over 5 million Americans. Discovered over 100 years ago by Doctor Alois Alzheimer, it is a progressive neurological disease that causes memory loss, confusion, and a decline in functionality. While the majority of people with Alzheimer’s are age 65 and older, up to 5 percent of people with Alzheimer’s are in their 40’s and 50’s. Alzheimer’s can be a devastating disease both for the people who suffer from it, and for friends and family members who have to deal with the fact that their loved one no longer remembers them. Unfortunately, there is no known cure for Alzheimer’s…but thanks to organizations like Alzheimer’s Research Foundation, we’re getting closer.

Alzheimer’s doesn’t begin with memory loss — it begins years before symptoms appear.

In fact, research shows that the brain can start changing 10–20 years before signs are visible. These early changes offer a critical window for prevention, early intervention, and research that could change the course of the disease.

That’s why our work focuses on uncovering the root causes of Alzheimer’s and identifying new ways to stop it before it starts.

Alzheimer’s doesn’t affect everyone the same way.

Black Americans are twice as likely—and Hispanic Americans 1.5 times as likely—to develop Alzheimer’s compared to white Americans.

These disparities highlight the urgent need for more inclusive research, prevention strategies, and access to care.
Because progress against Alzheimer’s must reach everyone. 💙

Meet Dr. Marangelie Criado-Marrero, a Gator NeuroScholar at the University of Florida’s McKnight Brain Institute ( ).

Dr. Criado-Marrero is studying how aging and mild brain injuries alter brain connections and immune responses—revealing early changes that may predict Alzheimer’s risk and open doors to prevention.

At a recent event, we invited guests to pause, reflect, and remember. 💜

Together, we filled cards with the names and stories of loved ones impacted by Alzheimer’s—each one a powerful reminder of why this work matters so deeply.

In the weeks ahead, we’ll be sharing these cards and honoring the individuals they represent, celebrating their lives while continuing to raise awareness and support for Alzheimer’s research. Thank you to everyone who took part and helped ensure these stories are seen, shared, and remembered.
