To Whom it May Concern, February 13, 2023
I am a doctoral candidate at Liberty University, working on my final research dissertation. One of the requirements for my study is to gain permission from agencies/organizations, or other entities where I would find research participants for my specific study. I have a response template available for your use if giving me permission to connect with you for the purpose of sending out my dissertation packet and survey link to potential participants.
The purpose of my study is to study the trauma symptomology of foster, kinship, or adoptive parents who are parenting traumatized children with attachment disruptions and trauma behaviors. This qualitative study will use evidence-based instruments and a Likert Scale Survey to gather information about the parent figure and the traumatized child.
I am tasked with presenting a permission response document from agencies/organizations that will help with this recruiting process. If you/r organization is willing to participate by sending my dissertation packet and a survey link to your constituents, would you please complete the following template on LETTERHEAD? This method of gathering information through providing a survey link will ensure the anonymity of all participants with no known way of association with any one agency or organization.
I would appreciate a response by February 27, 2023, so that I can stay on my timeline for presenting my proposal to the review board. Please send the permission response to khenderson1@liberty.edu
Once I have Review Board approval, I will send the required documents and packet to you for your dispersal. The proposed timeline would be in March 2023.
Thank You,
Kaylene Scholl Henderson

Just finished the chapter one summary of my dissertation to go to the internal review board (IRB). Options to participate in this important research will be coming soon. Stay tuned.

Summary

Millions of traumatized children worldwide need healthy family systems. When adverse childhood experiences compact their life with developmental trauma factors, unorganized attachment relationships, and mental health disparities inducing body responses through polyvagal reactions, The fight, flight, and freeze mechanisms become hyperactive. These hyperactive reactions send lightning bolts of danger onto the environment and relationships in their sphere of interaction.

The problem that arises from this population is the need for alternate family placement into a world system that is ill-prepared to handle the scope of challenges that accompany this child. The new family units are subjected to electrifying behaviors with danger lurking around every corner. “Felt Safety” is the goal to produce healing and allow a strong family to emerge.

The purpose of this research is to identify the scope of trauma that foster and adoptive families are exposed to. Describing trauma and the effects that influence brain development, understanding the foster/adopted child, and exploring the recruitment, training, and post-placement supports will be highlighted to evaluate the potential of foster displacement or adoption disruption. Acknowledging areas of resource/adoptive parent personal trauma potential from the child's trauma exposure will hopefully secure methods of care to prevent the family's downfall.
