Join us this Friday for an experiential deep-dive into Dr. Manock's seminal research regarding attachment and bonded-ness with God. This course examines the correlation between adult attachment style and unconscious IoG, laying the groundwork for incorporating the deepest story of all, faith, into the counseling relationship. It's one of our most important seminars of the entire year and is open to all community members, with specific invitation to counselors and pastors.

We'd love to have you join us on Friday, May 17, in person or on Zoom. See full description and RSVP at https://salemici.com/seminars/ Cost: $50, $100 additional for 8 CE credits.

Join Dr. David Manock and the ICI team for an all day seminar on the Neurobiology of Relationships. Drawing on the work of Dr. Daniel Siegel, neuropsychiatrist, and Dr. Jim Wilder, neurotheolgian, as well as the integrative research of Dr. Manock in the area of human-human and human-God attachment, we will examine the ways we are wired for relationship with all of its impacts on therapy, healing, and bondedness. Humans have a life-long neuroplasticity (esp. in the area of joy): our brains can change and so can our relationships! Neurobiology is transforming the field of psychology and is foundational to the Manock Integrative Method.

This is a public seminar, open to anyone in the community. It is specifically geared toward therapists and pastors, and will be informative for anyone seeking a deeper understanding of human minds and relationships.

Cost: $50
CE credits available for extra $100

Thank you to Northside Church in Albany for inviting us to present on parenting! It was a rich time of exploring "Real Parenting": attachment, family systems, and the lovingkindness (strength and mercy) of God as he parents us. Our favorite part was the second hour, wrestling with you through your tough parenting questions.

Love to see all the NS parents investing in becoming even better parents!

Happy new year! We're kicking off a long stretch of once-a-month seminars and would love to have you join us. January 19 we are hosting "Attachment Theory 1" in Albany, taught by Dr. David I. Manock. Public welcome--in person attendance preferred, but online options available.

Register here: www.salemici.com/seminars

Description: Attachment Theory (AT) suggests that children come into the world biologically wired to form attachments with others because this will help them survive. All humans need attachment relationships and all humans experience attachment wounds. There are four basic attachment styles (secure, anxious, avoidant, and disorganized) that are formed in our early years of life. Childhood and adult attachment bonds lie at the heart of what it is to be human. In this seminar we examine the principles of Attachment Theory, looking closely at the teachings of Drs. Mary Main, Mary Ainsworth, and John Bowlby. We will utilize tools such as the genogram, AAI, and MAAI to learn how to determine primary attachment style and how to use these tools to facilitate growth and healing.

September means we're back in full swing with our monthly seminars open to clinicians, counselors, pastors, and community guests. This is a required core course for MIM certification. We'd love to have you join us!

Description: National surveys indicate that a person will change jobs or careers some seven times during their life. The old days seem to be gone when a person would get a job at Ford Motor Company or the state government, work 30-40 years, then retire. We need to shift the way we coach and counsel people through job changes—no longer do we simply guide them to gain skills for their next job but we must help them become proactive, lifetime careerists. Utilizing the Big Five Personality Scale and an integrative philosophy of vocation, our LCDC course will teach you how to empower your clients by assessing temperament, traits, skills, and vocational and avocational passions.

Cost: $50 community guests and pastoral counselors,
$100 clinicians (8 CE credits available for extra $100)
Location: 355 High St. SE, Salem, OR 97301
Time: 9-4
Food: breakfast and lunch included

8 CE Credits Available. RSVP https://salemici.com/seminars/

Dr. Manock has developed a psychopathology assessment that treats the client as a co-creator of the assessment materiel and process. This is a departure from 1-person psychology (with its erroneous view that the counselor is the expert and the client is the counselor’s subject) to a 2-person psychology that conceptualizes the client as being the intuitive expert of their own world and subjective experience, and the counselor being, not the expert of the client’s subjectivity, but the expert of languaging the subjectivity. In such an approach a therapeutic alliance is formed between counselor and client and a healing process can begin, for the two persons together hold the pain. Shared pain breaks the power of pain and we will see this again as we examine psychopathology through the lens of DSM-5 criteria. In this core course counselors and therapists will review DSM-5 history and organization and will explore the ways the DSM-5 can be helpful while remembering that we must never elevate pathology in such a way that we lose sight of the person.

Our Story

Humans are living documents. Each person has six essential life stories: birth, name, family, love, work and faith. Psychological struggles and problems reflect relational failures connected to those stories that are internalized. If relationships bring us pain and distress, it takes relationship to heal them.

At the Integrative Counseling Institute, our clinicians and pastoral counselors offer a safe and caring environment to address the whole person; brain, mind and relationship.

ICI also offers training and supervision for counselors and interns.
