For Nervin Fanous, MD, “Care with Respect” means treating patients the way she would treat her own family — with honesty, safety and clear communication.

As a cardiothoracic surgeon at Salem Health, she believes that excellent care takes more than technical skill. It takes trust, transparency, and a fully committed team.

Dr. Fanous shares her approach to heart surgery, why communication matters, and how Salem Health’s culture of integrity and teamwork supports patients when the stakes are highest.

This morning Cheryl Nester Wolfe, Salem Health CEO and Maggie Hudson, CEO of Santiam Hospital and Clinics, met with more than 50 members of the North Santiam Service Integration Team for a great community-focused conversation.

Fun fact: The North Santiam SIT team was the first team of its kind in the Santiam Canyon, formed in 2017!

Cheryl and Maggie shared how thankful they are to work with community partners. They talked about the importance of open communication and working together toward shared goals. Together, they reaffirmed their commitment to:

✅ Strengthening Santiam’s maternity program
✅ Growing access to care as the population grows
✅ Continuing the Service Integration Program — Salem Health has been a long-time supporter of Service Integration Teams!
✅ Staying connected and engaged with the community

We had a wonderful time sharing updates about our partnership with Santiam Hospital & Clinics through the Santiam Service Integration program! This program reflects what both our organizations are all about: supporting our community. It helps build a stronger community safety net by making sure neighbors, friends and families get help faster when they need it most.

Yesterday, we joined their teams in Jefferson and had great conversations about our shared culture and mission centered on community. Someone even said Salem Health and Santiam Hospital & Clinics are “the heart of the community,” which meant a lot to us.

We’re proud to continue investing in rural health care by focusing on real needs, supporting growing communities and being embedded in the fabric of the community. We want to be part of the community, not just work in it.
