To all my patients, friends, and Family
June is Pride Month. Its not just for the LGBTQ community. Its an opportunity to see and learn from others, to show love to people in your circle of influence. No one knows the extent of the challenges that one endured before making decisions to be happy and true to their own self. In my practice all people are welcome. As a q***r man myself, the path to embracing change and living life on your own terms is a freedom all should enjoy. Happy Pride 2022.

This year i want to encourage everyone to try something new that will add to your beautiful life. Maybe take an online course, try a new daily habit, or push yourself to new heights. This year i signed up to hike 6 summits. A group called Six pack of Peaks - central Oregon - supports a great program to help kids get out and explore the great outdoors. I am pushing myself to reach all 6 summits. I have already reached 1 of 6- 5 more to go. What is your goal this year? Come to Journey Through Healing Chiropractic Center to meet me and see if chiropractic can help you reach your goal.

Enjoy a Nice walking Path !

The downtown Independence River park offers smooth paved walking path with a large fence area for dogs, exercise stations along the sports park loop, disc golf, an amphitheater, large playground and plenty of areas to sit and watch the River. There are a few river access points as well. What i like most about this area are the smooth flat paths that most if not all can enjoy. Close by one can also enjoy a healthy meal at one of the downtown eateries or stroll around the local shops. As all my patients know, i promote walking as a wonderful way to keep the body moving and to improve your health. I enjoyed a 3 mile loop but you can do less or more depending on what path you choose. Have a wonderful week walking and enjoying what the Willamette Valley has to offer.

The Dalai Lama once said that Happiness is the lightest form of health. I truly believe that walking is a part of happiness which can expand upon our joy of life .

I re-engaged with my love of hiking/walking this past January and it has been an inspiration to me.

I want to share a local park/walking area that is at the entrance of Sprague High School in South Salem.

Skyline Trail Loop - This is an absolutely lovely short loop through a city forested area. The song birds and easy hillside walking trail are so relaxing. This trail is a 1.3 mile loop to help one clear the mind and relax as you stroll around on a well maintained path. There are a few side trails that shorten the loop. If you go clockwise you will go slightly downhill and after passing up a small zig zag the loop continues to the right. If you go straight ahead you will end up at the other trail entrance on the school campus.

I encourage my patients to find ways to add movement of any king into their lives. Find a way to add to your happiness each day. Movement increases endorphins and can reduce stress. Please explore this fun path in the south Salem community. You will not be disappointed.

Joryville Park just 15 to 20 minutes south of downtown Salem. (approximately 7 miles) It is located just off Jory Hill Road S, which can be accessed via Liberty or Skyline Road. This is a nice area to do a little uphill walking/hiking. There area lot of little loop options that can give you short half mile to maybe 2-3 mile loop options. This is a great picnic area with tables and a pit toilet. This is small hill with about 250 ft of elevation gain to the top. If you need to work on your leg muscles or do a nice short warm up hike before heading out on your day, this is a really nice area to go. My 11 year old son enjoyed exploring this park with me. The top offers beautiful views of the south Salem hillside. The route we took was about 1.5 miles in length and the downhill was a bit steep on the trail we chose. The flat picnic area would be a fantastic place to sit and read a book or enjoy a gathering of friends and or family.

I love finding place like this for my own family and sharing it with my patients. Walking and or hiking has a dramatic effect on your health and outlook on life. I encourage you to push your limits a little and explore this unique Marion County park and enjoy the view at the top.

I love finding these outdoor gems. As a chiropractor I love talking about health, exercise, and helping people discover and experience improved wellbeing. I normally try and find local easy walking hikes but since I spend a lot of my own personal hiking time in the Columbia Gorge, I had to share this amazing place.

Lacamas Lake Regional park. This gorgeous park is approximately 70 miles North of downtown Salem in the city of Camas, Washington. There are a variety of trials to choose from. There are small lakes to enjoy as well as loop trails that allow you to see the hills and a few waterfalls. The trail I took was a 4 mile loop full of spectacular forest areas, lake views, streams, and two waterfalls. There is also an opportunity to take a higher loop that has an overlook of one of the lakes. There are flush toilets and play structures. I saw families playing on the lake with rafts as well as stand up paddle boards. There is a system of bike trails in the area as well. I encourage you to get out, explore, and see what paths you can find. Hiking, biking, walking, running, or just fun family time improves your health. Be safe and carry plenty of water with you when outdoors this summer.

I am always searching for local places that families and individuals can enjoy. I truly believe that movement is life. Walking has repeatedly been proven to help the body to improve in health both physical and mental. Some known health benefits of walking for just 30 minutes a day include but are not limited to: Increased heart and lung health, reduced risk of heart disease and stroke, improved ability to manage stress, helps to lower blood pressure and can reduce joint pain and muscular stiffness.

Spring Valley Park offers mostly flat family friendly dirt trails just next to the Willamette River. The figure 8 loop is about 2 miles long. This West Salem River front park is just north of West Salem off of Wallace Rd. The park is approximately 10 miles or a 15 to 20 minute drive from downtown Salem. When I was there, a few families were taking their children to ride bikes along the one person trails. To the east of the parking area there is a very short trial that leads to the river, I highly recommend that view! There were portable bathrooms and one picnic table available. I encourage you all to get out and enjoy the bounty of what nature has to offer for your health. We live in a wonderful valley full of parks and areas to get out and enjoy the outdoors.

Often I talk to my patients about getting out to enjoy a nice walk. Here is a great local West Salem Park that offers a nice short loop trail that is mostly flat with a mild area of incline around the dog off leash area. The park also has tennis courts, basketball hoop, fantastic playground, baseball fields, small bathroom, plenty of free parking, and your choice of a paved path or a combined paved and dirt path loop. Our bodies thrive when we are moving and in motion. I encourage everyone to enjoy all the beauty that the outdoors has to offer while improving your health through walking.
