Full Circle Blessings
Unanswered Prayers, Unexpected Miracles
Itâs funny how life comes full circleâand how God often uses ânoâsâ and unanswered prayers to guide us toward His purpose.
Before I ever knew the life-changing power of a specific and corrective chiropractic adjustment, I wanted to become a physical therapist. At the time, that was the popular path for exercise science majors. Because of its popularity, getting into a PT program was extremely competitive.
After playing football my freshman year at Hanover College, my GPA never fully recovered, and that made me a less-than-ideal candidate for the âpopularâ PT programs.
Frustrated and confused, I often stopped by to talk with Lyn, who worked behind the front desk at Hanover. Everyone called her the âHanover Mom.â She had a way of listening, encouraging, and reminding students that Godâs plans are always better than oursâeven when they donât feel that way.
So, when I finally got a call back from Logan College of Chiropractic, she was the first person I told. I can still remember practically floating down the hallway to her office, grinning ear to ear as I shared my new discoveryâChiropractic.
Doors had been slamming shut, but Lyn looked at me and said,ďż˝âChris, it looks like God just opened a window.â
And boy, did I crawl through that window.
ďż˝Chiropractic school pushed me harder than I ever imaginedâlate nights, seminars, clubs, and endless studying. Interestingly, chiropractic school is actually more rigorous than PT programs and even requires more credit hours than medical school.
Years later, Iâve seen the blessing of those unanswered prayers play out over and over again. Case after case comes to our office after seeing MDs, PTs, and sometimes even other chiropractorsâwith no successâonly to find healing through the power of specific chiropractic adjustments.
But I never expected Godâs plan to come full circle the way it did when Lyn herself came into our officeâthis time as a patient.
She was suffering from severe Bellâs Palsyâparalysis on one side of her face caused by damage to the 7th cranial (facial) nerve. Her eyelid drooped, her speech slurred, and she was heartbroken after reading that most people never make a full recoveryâor that if they do, it takes months. She was desperate.
Thankfully, this wasnât our first rodeo with Bellâs Palsy. The 12 cranial nerves come directly off the brainstem, and the top bone in the neckâC1, or the Atlasâsits right there at that vital intersection. On Lynâs X-rays, her Atlas was clearly out of alignment.
Determined to heal, Lyn made the drive from Scottsburg, passing countless medical and physical therapy offices along the way. Within three weeks, her Bellâs Palsy was completely gone. The Facebook support groups she had joined couldnât believe it. Her church couldnât believe it. But I couldâbecause Iâve seen what happens when Godâs design for the body is restored.
It reminded me of that old Garth Brooks song from the â90s:
âSometimes I thank God for unanswered prayers.â
If I had become a physical therapist, Lyn might never have received the care she needed.
They say if you love what you do, youâll never work a day in your life. Watching lives transformâlike Lynâsânever stops being fulfilling.
