Artistic Statement: Suzie Torre-Cross

Photography, like poetry, has the power to evoke strong emotions and visceral responses. Perception is a dynamic conflict between how one interprets then strives to comprehend.

For me, the natural world is a spiritual sanctuary. It is a rich and vibrant canvas upon which life unfolds in a magical, mysterious, and majestic dichotomy of decay and rebirth. It abounds with colors, textures, and shapes.

In this series, Spring Awakening, I use this palette to challenge perception. I delve deeper to unearth stunning, surprising, and unexpected beauty.

Through my photography, I offer a “Window into Nature.” I hope these images move the viewer emotionally; then silently ask them to explore and welcome the nuances in their life.

We had a wonderful time welcoming the talented dancers from the Yeates Academy of Irish Dance to Capital Manor! Residents enjoyed a lively performance filled with beautiful costumes, graceful soft-shoe dancing, intricate Ceili group numbers, and the powerful rhythms of Celtic hard-shoe.

The performers, ranging in age from 7 to 18, brought incredible skill, dedication, and enthusiasm to the stage. It was especially meaningful to celebrate this group as their school marks 40 years as the oldest Irish dance academy in Oregon.

Thank you to these amazing young dancers for sharing their talent and bringing such joyful energy to our community!"

Tonight marked a truly historic moment for our community...our very first resident theater production! We are so proud to present Fiddler on the Roof – Senior Edition, brought to life by the incredible talent, dedication, and spirit of our own residents.

From weeks of rehearsals to the final curtain call, this production has been a joyful celebration of creativity, music, and storytelling. A heartfelt thank you to our wonderful director, Deborah Johansen, and music director, Dave Votaw, for guiding this amazing journey.

What makes this performance so special? Our residents (and a handful of future residents) aren’t just the audience...they are the stars of the show!
Break a leg to our cast and crew and thank you to everyone who came out to support this unforgettable evening.

Our residents recently had the pleasure of welcoming Colonel Paul M. Dyer, Commander of the 41st Infantry Brigade Combat Team, for a special presentation about the role and mission of the Oregon National Guard.

Colonel Dyer shared insights into how the National Guard serves both our state and our nation including overseas deployments and important missions closer to home like disaster response, wildfire support, and community assistance.

It was a fascinating opportunity for residents to learn more about the work of the National Guard and the dedication of the men and women who serve. We are grateful to Colonel Dyer for taking the time to visit Capital Manor and share his experiences with our community.

Embracing a better life. Embracing life better.

Since 1963, Capital Manor has been getting better and better! We are currently undergoing a five-phase expansion plan so we can meet the growing needs of the Salem community. After this plan is complete our 37 acre campus will expand to 49 acres. The 5 Phases include: 1. Expand and improve parking, 2. Build a 34 private suite state of the art Memory Care, 3. Build 34 new spacious Westside Villas for Independent Living, 4. Renovate and update our amenities and dining venues, 5. Remodel and renovate the exteriors of our existing villas.

Capital Manor offers a vibrant, active retirement lifestyle where our residents can thrive. With our focus on wellness there is always something to do to embrace a better life: take a fitness class in the pool, learn ceramics, volunteer at the library, meet friends for a glass of wine or walk your dog by the creek in the forested glen. With housekeeping, landscaping, maintenance, and a flexible dining plan, our staff take care of much of your “have-to-do” list so you can spend time on your “want-to-do” list.

Capital Manor is the only not-for-profit Life Plan (CCRC) Community within 30 miles of Salem. We are proud of our reputation in the Salem area as the community that offers the highest quality of care. Our residents have exclusive access to Capital Manor Care. As needs change over time, having access to our care, provides peace of mind for our residents and also for their family and loved ones.

We hope you will come see how we are embracing life better every day! Call to make an appointment , 503-589-3734 or visit https://www.capitalmanor.com to learn more.
