The Oregon Ballet Theatre came back to Capital Manor for their 2nd program in our community. This performance featured Mike Weddle giving the audience a brief history of ballet and the pre-professional Oregon Ballet Theatre dancers. The dancers performed movements that captivated our audience. At the end of the program, Mike and the dancers answered questions from our residents, which explained a lot of the ins and outs of ballet. We cannot wait to have the Oregon Ballet Theatre back again!

A strong community knows how to welcome new members, and an even stronger community knows how to say goodbye. We said goodbye to our friends and colleagues, Joe and Linda Burks, as they rode off into retirement bliss. We are so grateful for the years of service each of them has dedicated to Capital Manor—about 45+ years combined. Resident, Myra, and her musical friends, shared and amazing dedication to Joe and Linda, that celebrated their friendship, their service, and their love for each other, set to the “Sound of Music.” We will miss them dearly.

The True North Duo recently made their debut performance at Capital Manor. This performance featured award-winning singer and song writer, Kirsten Grainger, and multi-instrumentalist, Dan Wetzel. This perfect duo masterly gave us beautiful harmonies that captivated our audience. Their blue grass and folk style performance included music written by Kirsten and even one song that was inspired by one of our residents. The instruments used during the concert were made by Dan himself! We cannot wait to have the fantastic duo come back to our stage again!

The Willamette Master Chorus under the direction of Dr. Paul Klemme returned to our stage for the fifth time to present a concert in honor of our Capital Manor veterans. The performance included music from popular war themed Broadway Musicals like South Pacific, Les Misérables, Ragtime, and Miss Saigon. Their program selection had a beautifully performed piece from the Sound of Music that captivated listeners. Our audience also got to hear from five extremely talented soloists. We had about 50 singers on our stage giving back to our community veterans! It was truly an unforgettable night.

Capital Manor’s Annual Veterans Program was once again filled with many special moments as we recognized the service given by our 73 resident veterans and 6 staff veterans and as we remembered our veterans who passed away since our last program. Treasured traditions returned: Posting & Retiring the Colors, the National Anthem and Armed Forces Anthem Medley, a slide show of our veterans in service uniforms, the Service of Remembrance & Flag Folding Ceremony, Taps and the closing instrumental rendition of Amazing Grace. This year we recognized the seven decades that our veterans have served - from WWII to the Global War on Terrorism and Operation Enduring Freedom. One highlight of the evening was the presentation of our memorial flag by five Manor veterans representing a time span of service from 1942- 2018, to a cadet from the North Salem HS JROTC Honor Guard team. We also did a special reading of all 79 Capital Manor veterans’ names, thanking them for their sacrifice and service to our country and letting them know how proud we are that they are a part of our community. And throughout the evening we were surrounded by a display of uniforms - all with ties to Capital Manor, standing in silent salute to those who have served.

Embracing a better life. Embracing life better.

Since 1963, Capital Manor has been getting better and better! We are currently undergoing a five-phase expansion plan so we can meet the growing needs of the Salem community. After this plan is complete our 37 acre campus will expand to 49 acres. The 5 Phases include: 1. Expand and improve parking, 2. Build a 34 private suite state of the art Memory Care, 3. Build 34 new spacious Westside Villas for Independent Living, 4. Renovate and update our amenities and dining venues, 5. Remodel and renovate the exteriors of our existing villas.

Capital Manor offers a vibrant, active retirement lifestyle where our residents can thrive. With our focus on wellness there is always something to do to embrace a better life: take a fitness class in the pool, learn ceramics, volunteer at the library, meet friends for a glass of wine or walk your dog by the creek in the forested glen. With housekeeping, landscaping, maintenance, and a flexible dining plan, our staff take care of much of your “have-to-do” list so you can spend time on your “want-to-do” list.

Capital Manor is the only not-for-profit Life Plan (CCRC) Community within 30 miles of Salem. We are proud of our reputation in the Salem area as the community that offers the highest quality of care. Our residents have exclusive access to Capital Manor Care. As needs change over time, having access to our care, provides peace of mind for our residents and also for their family and loved ones.
