We had a wonderful time hosting a special Wine Education & Tasting Event with the Chemeketa Wine Studies Program. Our guest host, Katie Hudak, guided us through an engaging and informative tasting, sharing her knowledge and passion for the world of wine.

Residents also enjoyed thoughtful food pairings, with insights from our own Executive Chef, Matt Eichstaedt, who helped bring out the flavors and connections between each wine and dish.

It was a fun and flavorful evening filled with learning, laughter, and community. Thank you to everyone who joined us and to our wonderful presenters for making it such a memorable experience!

Capital Manor had the pleasure of hosting an Elections Forum in our Auditorium as part of our ongoing commitment to provide educational opportunities for our residents and staff ahead of the upcoming election.

While the original program was designed to include both the mayor’s race and Salem City Council Ward 8, the forum ultimately featured candidates for Ward 8 only. All candidates, including those running for Mayor, were invited to participate.
The evening provided Ward 8 candidates with time to share their perspectives, connect with attendees, and answer questions from the audience. We appreciate those who participated and engaged in thoughtful, respectful discussion.

As a reminder, Capital Manor is a non-profit organization and does not favor or oppose any candidate. This event was strictly informational, and no fundraising took place.

Last Sunday, Chef Matt, Jess, and baker Lilly had the pleasure of participating in the Marion Polk Food Share fundraiser, “Chef’s Night Out,” at the Salem Convention Center! Our team proudly served Chef Matt’s halibut ceviche and Lilly’s signature raspberry white chocolate chip cookies, both of which were an absolute hit with the crowd! We are honored to have been part of such a successful event supporting a truly worthy cause. Thank you to everyone who stopped by our table!

We were delighted to welcome back Golden Bough for a truly memorable performance. With their signature harmonies and beautiful blend of traditional Celtic music and original compositions, they transported us across Ireland, Scotland, and beyond. From the rich sounds of harp and violin to the lively rhythms of bodhrán and accordion, every piece was filled with warmth, artistry, and joy. It was a wonderful night of music that brought our community together and left us all smiling.

Thank you, Golden Bough, for sharing your incredible talent with us!

On April 8 we hosted our Food and Fund Drive Final Results Celebration in the Sunroom, along with milk and cookies! Resident lead, Glenda, announced the results of our community’s efforts to raise funds and collect food for the Marion Polk Food Share during the month of March. Results included:

• On March 10, we held a special Work Project Day labeling bags. We had around 50 resident volunteers who worked together to labeled 10,000 bags in two hours!
• Our three food barrels collected 480 pounds of food.
• Our monetary donations (online, cash and checks, sustainers) totaled $13,925.
• Our grand total of meals provided for those in need: 42,275

A huge thanks to all who participate to make this happen!

Artistic Statement: Suzie Torre-Cross

Photography, like poetry, has the power to evoke strong emotions and visceral responses. Perception is a dynamic conflict between how one interprets then strives to comprehend.

For me, the natural world is a spiritual sanctuary. It is a rich and vibrant canvas upon which life unfolds in a magical, mysterious, and majestic dichotomy of decay and rebirth. It abounds with colors, textures, and shapes.

In this series, Spring Awakening, I use this palette to challenge perception. I delve deeper to unearth stunning, surprising, and unexpected beauty.

Through my photography, I offer a “Window into Nature.” I hope these images move the viewer emotionally; then silently ask them to explore and welcome the nuances in their life.

Embracing a better life. Embracing life better.

Since 1963, Capital Manor has been getting better and better! We are currently undergoing a five-phase expansion plan so we can meet the growing needs of the Salem community. After this plan is complete our 37 acre campus will expand to 49 acres. The 5 Phases include: 1. Expand and improve parking, 2. Build a 34 private suite state of the art Memory Care, 3. Build 34 new spacious Westside Villas for Independent Living, 4. Renovate and update our amenities and dining venues, 5. Remodel and renovate the exteriors of our existing villas.

Capital Manor offers a vibrant, active retirement lifestyle where our residents can thrive. With our focus on wellness there is always something to do to embrace a better life: take a fitness class in the pool, learn ceramics, volunteer at the library, meet friends for a glass of wine or walk your dog by the creek in the forested glen. With housekeeping, landscaping, maintenance, and a flexible dining plan, our staff take care of much of your “have-to-do” list so you can spend time on your “want-to-do” list.

Capital Manor is the only not-for-profit Life Plan (CCRC) Community within 30 miles of Salem. We are proud of our reputation in the Salem area as the community that offers the highest quality of care. Our residents have exclusive access to Capital Manor Care. As needs change over time, having access to our care, provides peace of mind for our residents and also for their family and loved ones.

We hope you will come see how we are embracing life better every day! Call to make an appointment , 503-589-3734 or visit https://www.capitalmanor.com to learn more.
