Last month, we celebrated the achievements of 35 employees who participated in Salem Hospital’s English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) program. Students began the program in October 2024, and through virtual and in-person classes, were able to build confidence and fluency in speaking, listening, reading and writing.

The classes, taught by Salem State University instructors, focused on the communication needs of the workplace, particularly around the roles of support staff employees, and everyday conversations.

After four decades of dedication to Salem Hospital, Janet Talbot, manager of Volunteer Services and the Salem Hospital Gift Shop, has officially retired.

Throughout her time with us, Janet created impactful programs that touched the lives of countless patients, staff and volunteers. From launching the Pet Therapy Dog Program to the Baby Cuddler Program, her contributions have left a lasting legacy.

Most recently, in July 2023, Janet led the successful opening of the new Salem Gift Shop, transforming it into a thriving space that exceeded revenue projections.
