In honor of April National Volunteer Month, Seva Hospice would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to our incredible volunteers, Barbara and Ann. 💜

These two sisters in law have been volunteering together for over a year, bringing comfort, presence, and kindness to those we serve.

We asked, “What does volunteering mean to you?” and here is what Ann shared:

“I became a volunteer after being a caregiver for my husband. I remember how meaningful it was when someone would stop by, check on us, and simply spend time talking with him.

It truly made a difference. For me, volunteering is about letting caregivers and patients know that someone cares. It is about being there to listen, to sit quietly, or to give a caregiver some much needed time for themselves. It is also a way to show God’s love to those who need it most.”

Thank you, Barbara and Ann, for the love, comfort, and support you bring to our patients and their families every day. 💜

When asked what volunteering means to him, Jacob shared:

“I wanted to volunteer because I enjoy working with people and giving back to my community. I find it incredibly meaningful to spend time with patients and provide companionship.

This is something I hope to continue in the future after I complete my Bachelor’s degree. I plan to apply to the MSW program at Stan State, so gaining experience in this setting is very important to me. It has been such a rewarding experience so far.”

Thank you, Jacob, for your dedication, kindness, and the meaningful impact you make in the lives of our patients and families. 💜

In honor of National Volunteer Month this April, Seva Hospice would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to our incredible volunteer, Jennifer Nunes. 💜

When asked what volunteering means to her, Jennifer shared:

“As a Sociology major, I volunteer with Seva Hospice because I believe in the power of human connection and social support during life’s most vulnerable moments.

I see this work as an opportunity to give of myself by offering my time, presence, and care to patients facing terminal illness. Seva’s commitment to holistic care in our diverse Central Valley communities has truly inspired me and influenced my future career path.

This experience has been life-changing, and I feel honored to play even a small role in the lives of those we serve. I am deeply grateful for this opportunity.” 💜

Jennifer, thank you for your dedication, your heart, and the difference you make every day. ✨💜

The Philosophy of Seva

The word "Seva" is a Sanskrit word meaning service. However, it is more than just a simple desire to help others, "Seva” is actually composed of two words, “saha,” which means “with that,” and “eva,” which means “too.” Taken as a whole, the word “seva” means “together with” and describes the actions that seek collective uplifting through understanding the needs of others and are based on togetherness and integration. It is an expression of compassion for others and a genuine desire to help those around you.

Our mission statement and corporate philosophy is derived from this concept of Seva.

“Seva Hospice is proud to serve our community and devote our culture, our vision and ourselves to the betterment of society by helping those who require our support in their time of need”
