Ok peeps, hopefully you're gearing up for tomorrow's class! And not in a teeth gritting, vein popping, burdensome Atlas holding the world kind of way, but in a warm, glowing, calm way that speaks, "I like investing in myself because I know that I'm worth it" kind of way.

Storm Facer

Storms shape us. The tough times in life have a way of molding us into who we are and showing us what we’re made of. It is sensible to try to avoid pain, but we can’t always escape the pain of life. ā€œPain is inevitable. Suffering is optionalā€ -Haruki Murakami

Pain promotes growth. Resistance is how muscles are made strong. When I went to Oregon the weather turned and it stormed for four days. My sunny-Colorado-solar-brain was put to the test. However, I met the most wonderful, optimistic, couple who faced the storm with a smile. The wind was howling and the rain was coming down and they stated, ā€œI bet the waves are really cool at Shore Acres!ā€ And off we went to venture out into the storm. They were right, the waves were cool. I know what that’s like, (even if I didn’t see the sun for days) I have ventured out into snow storms because it was a powder day. But my lesson was renewed here.

I’m using literal storms as a metaphor, but I credit emotional storms for much of my growth. What if I faced them with a little more compassion? Maybe those painful waves of life aren’t cool, but maybe they’ll leave behind polished stones of wisdom in my heart that I’ll forever be grateful for. Maybe I’ll learn how strong I am or who my real friends are, or how supportive my family is. Maybe I’ll grieve like mad and have compassion for those that have experienced pain and loss. Teach me, Storm, teach me; for I have much to learn.
