We have provided myopia control services in our office for almost 5 years. It is such great news to have another treatment option for our patients. Give us a call to schedule your child if you have concerns about rapidly changing nearsightedness.

For many children, the experience of getting their first pair of glasses is an inevitable milestone, the first in a lifetime of visits to the eye doctor.

November is Diabetic Eye Disease Awareness Month
Did you know that diabetes can be detected as part of an eye exam? Your eye doctor may look for things such as fluid leakage, protein deposits (exudates), or abnormal blood vessel growth to determine such conditions as diabetic retinopathy, diabetic macular edema, glaucoma, or cataracts. In addition to a healthy diet and exercise, it's important to take measures to prevent diabetic eye disease; manage your blood sugar, blood pressure, and cholesterol levels, and get a dilated eye exam at least once a year.

Did you know that myopia, or “nearsightedness,” is becoming increasingly prevalent in children due to factors, including;

✅Spending prolonged periods indoors
✅Close-range activities such as screen time and reading
✅Lack of outdoor sun exposure
✅Heredity (children are at an increased risk when both parents are nearsighted)

Doctors like ours are trained in myopia control to help slow the progression using various therapies and treatments. One of the latest innovations are FDA approved specialty eyeglass lenses called Stellest lenses. With consistent long-term wear, this technology has been proven to slow myopia progression by an average of 67%.

Halloween is upon us and while we all want to go all out for our costumes, keep in mind that costume contact lenses can only be legally sold with a valid prescription from an eye care professional. An eye doctor must properly fit the lenses to your eyes, as they are not one-size-fits-all and a poor fit can cause serious eye damage, infections, and even blindness. Keep your eyes safe and healthy this Halloween season!
