Changes to federal policies are chipping away at supports for vulnerable families, and this puts a lot of pressure on caregivers. Rather than feeling hopeless about it, doing something - even a small thing - is empowering. It helps you see that you matter. Involving children in it helps them see they can make a difference, too.
When we build a mattering ecosystem that helps adults feel valued and significant, we’re creating the conditions for children to feel they matter, too. Policies and programs that support caregivers and minimize stressors—from paid family leave to housing subsidies—can play an important role in this ecosystem. On the new episode of our podcast, our Chief Science Office, Dr. Lindsey Burghardt, talks with Jennifer B. Wallace about the importance of mattering for young children and their caregivers as well as actionable strategies for creating a mattering ecosystem.
