Coffee can have amazing health benefits — antioxidants, improved focus, and more. But something most people don’t realize is that many conventional coffee beans are heavily sprayed with pesticides. Because coffee is grown in large monoculture farms, chemicals are often used to control pests and increase yield.

When those beans are sprayed, residues can end up in the coffee you drink every single day. That’s why where you source your coffee matters. Choosing high-quality, organic, and responsibly grown beans helps you enjoy the benefits of coffee without the added chemical burden.

Your morning cup should energize your body — not expose it to toxins. ☕🌱

Our recent GAPS Diet Food Pyramid (see our pinned post!) was such a success that we decided to make one for the GAPS Lifestyle. After all, GAPS is not just about the food we consume, but also how we live our day-to-day life.

The GAPS lifestyle is about so much more than just what is on your plate. It is a whole-body approach to supporting gut health, restoring balance, and creating habits that support healing.

At the foundation are real, nourishing foods, locally sourced whole foods, quality animal proteins, healthy fats, meat stock, fermented foods, and simple cooking techniques that make nutrients easier to digest and absorb. Seasonal eating and traditional preparation methods are a big part of how this way of living supports the gut.

But the lifestyle does not stop with food. Sleep, circadian rhythm, movement, breathwork, time in nature, and sunlight all support the nervous system and digestion. Reducing toxic exposures through cleaner home and hygiene products and supporting the body’s natural detox pathways can also make a meaningful difference.

Community, connection, and stress management are other important layers. When the body feels safe and supported, digestion and healing can happen more efficiently.

At the top of it all is consistency over perfection. Small choices are made daily, nourishing meals, getting outside, managing stress, prioritizing rest, and creating the foundation for lasting gut health.

The GAPS lifestyle is ultimately about returning to the basics our bodies were designed for. What’s your favorite GAPS lifestyle habit you try to stick to daily? Let us know in the comments!

Your body isn’t just what you eat — it’s what your gut decides to do with it. 🦠✨

Between every bite of food and every cell in your body stands an entire ecosystem: your gut microbiome. These trillions of microbes act as translators, transforming nutrients, producing vitamins, regulating inflammation, and even influencing your mood and energy.

If your microbiome is balanced, nourishment flows.
If it’s struggling, even the “healthiest” foods may not serve you the way they should.

Cooking with cast iron isn’t just about tradition — it’s about nourishing your body in a simple, natural way. Unlike synthetic nonstick pans that can release harmful chemicals when heated, cast iron is durable, non-toxic, and can even add small amounts of bioavailable iron to your food, supporting healthy energy levels and oxygen transport in the body.

It heats evenly, lasts generations, and turns everyday meals into mineral-rich nourishment. Choosing cast iron is a return to slower, intentional cooking — the kind that supports both your health and your home.

Of course, it's not necessarily something that will in-and-of itself make you live longer, its definitely good for your body!

Sometimes the healthiest upgrades aren’t complicated… they’re timeless. 🖤

With all the buzz around the new USA food pyramid guidelines, we decided to make our own!

This is the GAPS Diet–inspired food pyramid, centered around the foods that truly support gut healing and overall health across the different stages and spectrums of the GAPS Nutritional Protocol. At the foundation are animal foods and fats, and meat stock - the building blocks of the body. This includes quality animal meats (don't leave out the skin and nibbly bits of soft joint cartilage), fish, organ meats, eggs, animal fats, full-fat fermented dairy (kefir, sour cream, yogurt, and creme fraiche), ghee, butter, olive oil, and nourishing soups, stews, and casseroles. Foods are delicately seasoned with herbs, peppercorns, and rock salt.

In the early stages, the GAPS Diet focuses on well-cooked vegetables (as tolerated), gradually expanding to include eggs, avocado, and fermented foods like beet kvass, cabbage tonic, sauerkraut, fermented full-fat dairy, freshly dripped whey, and aged cheeses. Ginger tea with raw honey and other herbal, non-caffeinated teas are recommended along with freshly pressed juices as the base of GAPS milkshakes and smoothies. Honey is the primary natural sweetener on GAPS.

As the gut heals, more variety can be added in moderation and as tolerated, like raw and dried fruits, raw vegetables, along with properly prepared nuts and seeds that are soaked, sprouted, and fermented to support optimal digestion and absorption.

Repairing the gut is about simplicity, nourishment, and honoring how the body was designed to be fed. The GAPS Diet and our new food pyramid respects the unique healing path of every person - no matter where they begin their journey to recovery!
