Sciatica is one of the most common—and often most painful—conditions we treat at Piedmont Interventional Pain Care. It’s characterized by sharp, shooting pain that travels from the lower back down the leg, sometimes accompanied by tingling, numbness, or muscle weakness. This pain occurs when the sciatic nerve—the longest nerve in the body—is irritated, inflamed, or compressed.
Several conditions can contribute to sciatica, including:
✅ Herniated or bulging discs that press on the nerve root
✅ Degenerative disc disease, which can narrow the spinal space over time
✅ Spinal stenosis, a narrowing of the spinal canal that puts pressure on nerves
✅ Spondylolisthesis, where one vertebra slips over another
✅ Piriformis syndrome occurs when a tight muscle in the buttocks compresses the sciatic nerve
✅ Arthritis or bone spurs, which can create additional nerve irritation
At Piedmont Interventional Pain Care, we focus on targeting the root cause of sciatic pain using minimally invasive treatments. These therapies help reduce inflammation, relieve pressure on the nerve, and restore mobility without major surgery or prolonged downtime. With the right care plan, many of our Salisbury and Rowan County patients can walk, sit, and work comfortably again—regaining the freedom to live life without constant pain.
