The CARE-2 by Dr. Kathryn Seifert The CARE-2 recognizes that youth violence is related to childhood trauma in homes, neighborhoods, and public agencies. Childhood trauma interferes with the development of necessary life skills, dysregulates emotions, and exacerbates the sympathetic nervous system's reaction stressors. To reduce youth violence we must first use trauma-informed care and build youth resiliency in the brain, relationships, and behaviors and support youth and family wellbeing.

Dr. Murthy discussed mental Health on Fareed Zacharia Broadcast on Sunday, 12/26/21. He made the following recommendations: Children have suffered losses throughout the pandemic which has caused them stress. Let children know that it is OK to ask for help. We have had 31 school shootings so far in 2021. The recent tragic events at Oxford High School will generate dialogue that can prevent school shootings. Going forward there are some things school personnel and mental health providers can do to prevent school shootings. Evaluate every child that threatens to harm another person to determine if the youth needs supports and services to help him/her to increase healthy behaviors and activities and reduce behaviors and activities that can be harmful to self or others....

The growing volume of research on childhood trauma and its link to behavioral health problems, medical problems, criminality, su***de, violence, and living on the margins of society are clear. If we are to reduce the prevelence of these problems, we must solve the problem of child maltreatment, domestic violence, and paucity of family supports.
