Salisbury Marble and Granite

Salisbury Marble and Granite Allow our family to serve you by creating an enduring tribute to your loved one. This new company was originally located on West Fisher Street in Salisbury, NC.

Salisbury Marble & Granite, a local monument company, was established in 1919 by Manius Crawford Barnhardt after striking out on his own with five faithful employees. In the early 1930’s it was moved to its present location at 1305 South Main Street. Through years of serving the local area, Salisbury Marble and Granite grew to become the trusted monument company in the surrounding area. The Barnhardt family passed along the pursuit of quality and the passion for service to the Gaulden family in 1988. A third generation of the Gaulden family now continues in that tradition, personally involved in every step from designing and engraving to the installation of every memorial we create. We reflect on over 100 years as we care for each family we serve today.

Our team of experts recently installed this elegant bronze memorial from the Lasting Memories collection which features two levels of graphics; raised and recessed. This montage memorial was installed on a Jet Black granite base with a custom-made gooseneck shaped top which allows room for a reversible zinc vase. When not in use, the vase can be reversed and stored upside down in the ground for more pleasing aesthetics and safe keeping.

To complete this beautiful memorial, a Jet Black granite Hourglass Leg Bench with a personal engraved message was also installed. The bench provides the perfect place to spend time in reflection and remembrance, while also providing a lasting tribute for their loved one.

During the holidays people often decorate their loved one's memorials. Please remember that flocked or velvet artificial flowers and velvet ribbons can bleed and stain the granite. Artificial red poinsettias are especially prone to this. As a general rule, you should test your decorations by wetting them and then touching to a paper towel before using on your monument.

During the holiday season, cherished family recipes often take center stage, passed down through generations and shared with loved ones. One truly unique way to discover these treasures is through recipes that have been literally etched in stone on gravestones by families wishing to honor their loved ones’ culinary legacy.

There’s even a cookbook dedicated to this tradition, “To Die For: A Cookbook of Gravestone Recipes,” featuring an array of delicious dishes worth trying.

CBS Sunday Morning recently highlighted this heartwarming tradition, sharing stories of recipes engraved as lasting tributes. Over the years, we’ve had the privilege of engraving recipes for cookies, pies, and other beloved dishes that families were known for within their communities. What a beautiful way to celebrate a life by creating an enduring legacy that continues to bring joy for generations to come.

When archivist Rosie Grant launched a TikTok channel, GhostlyArchive, as a testament to gravestones, she discovered a niche form of memorial: cemetery marker...

We were deeply honored to create this elegant mausoleum for a family who placed their trust in us during a difficult time. Crafted from Blue Ridge Gray granite, it features graceful, fluted columns and a classic pediment that highlights the family name. This beautiful mausoleum will serve as a timeless tribute to their loved one's life and legacy.

We're so proud of our dedicated team who worked tirelessly to complete this project within a very short timeframe. From design to installation, every step (except cutting the granite) was handled in-house, with many hands coming together to ensure everything was ready in time for the service.

In honor of Veterans Day, we’re humbled to share a recent project we were privileged to complete - updating the Veterans Memorial at Concordia Lutheran Church. Each name engraved represents a life of service and sacrifice, and we’re honored to help ensure these heroes are never forgotten.

Today, and every day, we remember and give thanks to all who served.

Recently, our team of experts completed the installation of two beautifully crafted companion mausoleums. As shown in the photos, we offer a variety of styles and customization options, allowing you to create a personal and meaningful tribute for your loved ones. Whether you're looking for a single, companion, or estate mausoleum, we're always happy to accommodate custom design requests.

All of our monuments are installed by our own team, ensuring that every detail is handled with care and precision. Prioritizing safety, Nathan Gaulden recently performed critical re-rigging work on our largest crane to enhance safety during these installations.

Last month, our experienced team had the privilege of installing this stunning custom memorial.

Expertly crafted from Jet Black Granite, the die measures 24" x 10" x 26" and features a polished front, back, and top, with rock-pitched sides for a natural finish. It rests on a distinctive base measuring 34" x 16" x 9", highlighted by a beveled wash around the top edge.

A special feature of the back of this monument is that it was custom cut, designed to accommodate a Veteran bronze medallion which serves as a meaningful tribute to honor the individual's service and dedication to our country. Though subtle due to lighting, the back also showcases a beautifully etched scene of a rider on a 4-wheeler in the mountains.

This thoughtfully designed memorial stands as a lasting tribute to a cherished legacy.

Last month, we had the distinct pleasure of hosting a BBQ "Thank You" luncheon for our granite quarry supplier who supplies our domestic granite. We take pride in maintaining a great working relationship with them and are especially proud to offer high quality granite made in the United States. Pictured below are Josh Chapman and Bobby Gaulden setting up for the luncheon to thank the employees we work closely with on a daily basis.

On Patriot Day, we pause to remember the 2,977 innocent lives lost in the devastating events of September 11, 2001. May we always remember that day by holding in our hearts those who were lost and by celebrating the courage of those who acted with heroism.
