Happy MLK Day JMC community!
All across the nation, and specifically the Delmarva Peninsula, countless people will reflect on the legacy of one man who literally laid down his life for the cause that he believed in. Over the course of time, students the world over have studied the speeches of Dr. King, studied his methods, studied his life.
History has imprinted in collective minds the image of a young, vibrant man standing on an elevated podium in the bright sunshine of a morning in Washington DC, pleading with us to have the courage to partake in his dream. Unfortunately, the annals of time has done a disservice to Dr. King by pushing the agenda that this great man was an instigator, a rabble rouser, a troublemaker. Those of the lighter hue were force fed the lie that in order to reach his goal of equality, he wanted to strip others of their rights, push aside anyone who did not share his skin color. That, ladies and gentlemen, was and remains a bona fide untruth.
At his core, Dr. King was a visionary who espoused the virtues of unity among all people. In his Nobel Peace Prize acceptance speech in 1964, he stated that one day all people would have to learn to live together in peace. He went on to recognize that this would only be accomplished through a foundation of love. He patently rejected revenge, retaliation and aggression, even when met with those destructive forces. Suffice to say, Dr. King was a man who believed in justice for all people and no doubt his life's mission was to come to the aid of any group caught in the throes of oppression and systematic injustuce.
We at Jolley Memorial Chapel P.A would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the legacy and memory of Dr. King. We recognize that much of what we are able to flourish at today, would not have been possible without the courage of him and so many others like him. If we have but one request it is this: Don't just recite the memory of that publicly celebrated dream, awake from the slumber and live out loud the manifestation of peace, unity, and love. As much as it is in your power to do so, live in peace with all men.
