Hocus POCUS! Our residents had aptly-named POCUS sim lab with favorite Dr. Cotton teaching ultrasound techniques. The night team decorated our call room for Halloween and Dia De Los Mu***os and our OR and hospital staff are crushing the pumpkin art! Happy Halloweek everyone 👻🎃🦇🧙‍♀️🧛💀🍁

Spring has sprung here in Salt Lake City! Whether you’re a resident-parent hosting an Easter egg hunt for all the little ones, a research resident cheering on your neighbors at the “pond skim” (a favorite of many Utah Ski Resorts for closing weekend), or a little cat excited to snooze in the sun for the first time all winter, there was something to celebrate for everyone! We’re always sad to see ski season go, but summer brings even more Utah adventures around the corner.

Today we had a very special Grand Rounds titled “Music as Medicine”, an hour of music and story telling meant to be a moment of healing for the healers. Our very talented chief resident Dr. Alexandria Tran played a number of piano concertos and other pieces and we heard reflections given by faculty and residents on the privilege, pain, joy and moral injury of being a surgeon. It was an incredible hour spent together and we are all grateful for Dr. Tran, Dr. Lambert and the residents and faculty who bravely shared their stories today.

Dr. Lambert (our Program Director) & Dr. Thackeray (Program Director for Residency) shared a table today at a residency fair at Howard University.

She was also excited to run into 2 of our 2022 Utah Summer Training Academy for Rising Surgeons (USTARS) students, Nkem and Ashley!

ICYMI: Yesterday was our favorite day of the year- resident Ski Day! Faculty, residents, and alumni gathered at Solitude for a great day of skiing, snowboarding, tailgating and camaraderie, followed by an evening get-together in downtown SLC.

Huge thank you to everyone who put in extra work yesterday to allow all residents to be away from clinical responsibilities. 🙌🏼🎿🏂

This week, three of our current PGY4s (Sarah, Lauren and Maks) met up with recent graduate Kevin Bagley for a multi-day backcountry adventure in Colorado. Nothing quite like the great outdoors (and sleeping in a cozy hut with human and canine friends) to help you feel refreshed and rejuvenated!

We love our proximity to so many beautiful places that can be enjoyed in all seasons. 🙌🏼 We also love our co-residents, even long after they leave!! ❤️
