When children exhibit problem behaviors, it's important to identify the underlying function—whether it's sensory, escape, attention, or access to tangibles. We then teach a more acceptable, functionally equivalent replacement behavior. With the help of Functional Communication Training (FCT) and reinforcement, these replacement behaviors can be effectively shaped over time.

The Autism Council of Utah is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to providing access to resources and information to those that have, or are affected by autism. With our grant, we plan to expand and continue our services to those in the Salt Lake valley.
