Did You Know? There is no safe blood lead level in children. Young children are most at risk of lead poisoning because they often put things in their mouths. Common sources of lead are paint in homes built before 1978, water from lead pipes, imported foods and medicine, soil, and products such as antique jewelry and dishes.
The best way to protect your child is to prevent lead poisoning before it starts:
• Get older homes tested for lead in paint and water.
• Keep play areas clean and dust free.
• Have your child tested for lead if you think they have been exposed.
