For the 6th year, Ken Garff Automotive partnered with VA Salt Lake City to donate thanksgiving meals to Veterans and active duty families. Lines of cars came through the George E. Wahlen VA Medical Center, Orem clinic and Ogden clinic as early as 5am last saturday. Diabetes Awareness Month is about more than just learning about Diabetes. It is about learning how to prevent, treat, and manage Diabetes. If you walked through our main lobby today, you would have seen a lot of educational materials and some visual aids showing just how much sugar is in that soda.

Say hello to our Volunteer of the Month for November! Alena Balmforth was born in what is now know as the Czech Republic and lived in multiple refugee camps before moving to Salt Lake City at 11 years old. She held several careers before retiring as a professor at SLCC. Alena loves the compassionate contact program because it allows her to just chat with Veterans and get to learn their stories.

Alena, Thank you for everything you do, especially your volunteer work with the No Veteran Dies Alone program!

We have plenty of free Thanksgiving meals in Salt Lake City and Orem still, so come on down!

The annual Ken Garff drive out hunger event is officially underway! We are giving away more than 1500 Thanksgiving meals to veteran and active duty families in need! We are at the Salt Lake City campus, Orem, clinic, and Ogden clinic until we are out of Thanksgiving meals!

We got to join with our partners at the Utah Department of Veterans and Military Affairs and Lt. Governor Deidre Henderson to honor Veterans who reached an incredible milestone: reaching 100 years old!

The Utah State Capitol was filled with gratitude and admiration as the state of Utah and the VA Salt Lake City Health Care System (VASLCHCS) joined together to honor a remarkable group of 25 Utah Veterans who are approaching or have already hit a significant milestone: turning 100 years old.

Dr. Heather Black was our Supervisory awardee of the 2025v Spirit of George E. Wahlen Award. in her acceptance, she took a moment to thank everyone who spends their career supporting Veterans. "For every nominee here today that is celebrated, that are countless others whose contributions may go unrecognized but profoundly impact hundreds of lives year after year during their VA careers,” she said.
