Eeeee! My new website is finally here!

This is the third iteration of my website since I first took over En Route Movement. Which, if you’re an OG to my little sphere on the internet, ERM was the studio I had the amazing opportunity of buying back in 2014. After so many changes and so much growth, I decided to officially rebrand to Movement Design lab in 2019.

Now that I’ve officially closed the doors on that big beautiful brick space in Salt Lake City, it was time for a website refresh and I’m so pleased with how this one turned out.

Thank you ! It was a labor of love and you knocked it out of the park!

Be sure to check out the full site with my link in bio.

Hello hello! 👋🏼

Since we just moved back to Colorado & it’s been forever since I’ve done a proper introduction, I figured it was finally time!

My name is Bre Dumke Helfrich, PhD, and I’m the owner of Movement Design Lab and the main content creator of this IG account.

Here’s some fun facts about me:

I was born & raised in South Dakota. While I loved living in both Denver and Salt Lake City, one of the main reasons my family and I moved back to Colorado was an opportunity to live in a more rural, small town.

I love all things design. In addition to geeking out on the design of the human body, I love art. I love making art and enjoying art of all forms: painting, textiles, drawing, photography, interior design - I love it all.

I literally fell into becoming a movement teacher; while mountaineering in the Sangre de Cristos of Southern Colorado, a rock gave out underneath my feet while traversing an exposed ridgeline. I literally fell off a mountain and this work became a critical part of my rehabilitation.

In addition to Pilates and the Gyrotonic Method, I love trail running, skiing (both alpine and backcountry), mountain biking and keeping up with my two little boys. I love how this work complements all that I do and keeps me moving my best.

I love teaching movement because I personally know what it’s like to be scared to lose the ability to move. I love helping others feel at ease, strong & capable in their bodies.

Thank you for being here! If you made it this far be sure to say hello!

🍂✨ Happy Fall Equinox! ✨🍁

Similar to the changing leaves, I’ve been changing so much over here and have finally landed in Steamboat Springs, CO! I’m now booking both virtual and in-person lessons again!

It feels so good to be back teaching & I’m moving my little micro studio. I have plans to eventually be in a larger space but for now, I’m loving the simplicity of my minimal set up. It’s driving my creativity in such a fresh, new way.

If you’re looking for a personalized, virtual movement lessons, DM me! And similarly, if you’re in the Steamboat Springs area and want to get moving, DM me! We can explore the Gyrotonic method, Pilates, help you reach your fitness goals, or work on an acute or chronic body injury. I’m here to help! 💪🏼

Photo dump from the past month! 🚛✨🚙

I’ve still been pretty quiet online as real life has been so full! We’ve officially moved back to Colorado at the start of September & while I’m tired from all the packing & unpacking, my heart is so happy knowing this was exactly what I’ve been wanting for years.

Stay tuned as I share more about this new chapter back ✨home✨!

In the Flow! 😜🌊

For the past two weeks, I’ve loving my new temporary home at . I’m grateful to join all the incredible practitioners here in such a beautiful and calm space.

While it’s still TBD on how long I’ll be teaching in SLC, I’m making the most of my time here! sees clients Tuesday/Thursday mornings and I’m seeing clients all day Mondays + Tuesday/Thursday afternoons.

After years of having a maximalist studio with ALL. THE. TOYS, I’m enjoying the mental challenge of having a minimalist set up. We’ve been rocking the GYROTONIC Pulley Tower and Pilates Chair duo. I’m definitely feeling the adage that necessity breeds creativity. It’s also making me think hard about what I want my next teaching space in Colorado to really be.

The joy of hitting pause. 💙🎉🤸‍♀️

It’s been 11 years of owning Movement Design Lab. Five years as 1,100 sq ft and then six years as 2,700 sq ft. As I weathered my PhD, the pandemic, and two babies, the studio started to become an unruly beast that I knew I needed to change.

I didn’t want to keep owning such a large studio and my husband and I have wanted to move back to Colorado for YEARS.

I’m so grateful to finally hit pause. I can now exhale, examine what worked and what didn’t, and focus on what I want my next chapter (and location!) to be. 💙
