Participants discussed common barriers when introducing EMDR. A participant noted that teens may view EMDR as โweird,โ with the difficulty transitioning long-term talk therapy clients into EMDR work. We discussed alternative language for โtarget sequence planningโ to capture teens. Instead, we can co-create visual maps linking memories, thoughts, and emotions using discussion or whiteboards, providing structure, clarity, and validation.

We discussed sensory overload during BLS. Trevor recommended ensuring target activation before starting and how to assess for the target being fully activated. We also discussed how to assess and manage when dissociation occurs.
