What if we replaced the word “love” with “conform”?

Suddenly, relationships start to make a whole lot more sense.

Instead of saying “I’m in love with you,” it becomes “I’m willing to conform to you.”
And “I love you too” becomes “I want you to conform to me too.”

Look at what we’re actually willing to do for each other in the name of love — bending, shifting, adjusting who we are or how we live, just to make the relationship work.

When the ways we conform align with what the other person desires, the relationship can thrive for years. But when those efforts become too exhausting, too far from our own nature, that’s where tension, resentment, or disconnection begins.

Maybe that’s why so many people feel like love — or at least modern ideas of love — come bundled with unspoken expectations and pressure.
