A friendly reminder :)
Even if you eat a very large Thanksgiving meal, or multiple, your body can handle it! It has mechanisms that will kick into gear to digest and use all the food you give it. In fact, restricting or exercising harder beforehand could stress your body out making it harder to do what it naturally knows how to do.
Enjoy your Thanksgiving meal(s), you can trust your body đŚ

Can you believe weâre already talking about Thanksgiving?! Itâs only a week away!
You donât have to eat to the point of physical discomfort just because itâs Thanksgiving*. The same foods that are on your Thanksgiving table are available all year long, and you can have them whenever you want!**
*but you can if you want to!
** In eating disorder recovery, following your meal plan often means eating to or past physical discomfort. That is a necessary part of recovery, and you should continue to follow your meal plan as discussed with your care team.

Itâs not healthy to refuse certain foods because of fear or guilt. đ¤

Itâs true! There is not one food that doesnât benefit the body in one way!
Candy? Glucose for energy
Potato chips? Lipids and carbohydrates for longer lasting energy
Bagels? Fiber and carbohydrates for energy and digestion
⌠you get the idea đ

Healing from an eating disorder is very hard! One thing that makes it so hard is the amount of food that needs to be eaten on a daily basis. Itâs often more than the person has ever eaten before, and more than the people around them are eating.
This is hard, but a necessary and normal part of recovery.
If you are supporting someone in their recovery, refrain from making comments about how much food is on their plate. Just support them, and validate their struggles. đ

In eating disorder recovery (and all other times), it is harmful to assume a person doesnât need to gain weight just because of their current size. Weight is individualized. The BMI scale cannot determine whether or not someone needs weight restoration.
What does? A personâs history, genetics, health markers, and ultimately their own body (what the body does with adequate energy intakes.)

Have you started buying Halloween candy yet? đ
Feeling out of control when candy is around might be common, but itâs not normal. Itâs not how our bodies were designed to be. It is a sign of disordered eating.
Normal eating includes being able to trust yourself around sugar. Itâs being able to feel comfortable around sugar. Itâs being able to eat it when you want, eat as much as you want, stop when you want, and not feel bad about any of it. Itâs being able to hear what your body wants, and trust your body knows what itâs doing. Itâs having grace with yourself when you do eat waaaay past a comfortable fullness level, and seeing that as a learning experience instead of a shameful experience.
So what do you do if having Halloween candy in the house does feel stressful? Know that you have full permission to eat it, and strongly consider working with a registered dietitian who specializes in intuitive eating - they will be able to help you improve your relationship with food. You donât need to live the rest of your life that way!

Often, your first appointment will be an hour long initial consult to find out more about you and your goals and get you started in the right direction. Follow ups are often 30 minutes. Depending on your needs, nutrition experientials at a restaurant or grocery store can easily be included. Many programs include monitoring of weight and body compositions, but this does not have to be a part of your sessions. Reach out to us today to get started on your path to health and wellness!
