Understanding lung cancer is key to early detection and better outcomes. 🫁👍 As Lung Cancer Awareness Month progresses, here are four things everyone should know:
1. NOT Just a Smoker's Disease 🚭 While smoking is the leading cause, up to 20% of people who die from lung cancer have never smoked. Radon, air pollution, and genetics are significant risk factors.
2. Early Detection is Crucial 🕵️ Lung cancer can often be treated more successfully when caught early. Pay attention to persistent symptoms like a chronic cough, shortness of breath, or chest pain.
3. Advances Are Saving Lives 📈 This is NOT automatically a death sentence. Incredible breakthroughs in targeted therapies, immunotherapy, and surgery are improving survival rates and quality of life for many.
4. Get Regular Screenings 🩻 If you're a current or former heavy smoker, annual low-dose CT (LDCT) screening could detect cancer early. Talk to your doctor to see if you qualify.
