In life I was raised feeling that taking risks was too risky and losing meant you were a loser. Play it safe. Know your next move to avoid mistakes.

I'm so grateful for the challenges life has thrown at me. I've been given opportunities to shift my mindset to believe that NOT taking the risks is too risky and we have to love the idea of losing. As every lose is an opportunity to try it again and do it even better than we imagined.
My child just made it to regionals for Powerlifting. After some errors in technique she found herself at 6th place. She was devastated and she exclaimed...I JUST WANTED TO PLACE 3RD AT LEAST!
I impressed on her that this competition wasn't over and she can still make a comeback. She could have quit there because her errors cause a setback.
Our belief in our home is a setback is only a setup for a great COMEBACK.
She ended pulling the right points and weight in the end to place 3rd. I tell her all the time. We win and learn... We take no losses. Super proud of that girl because she's coming with the mindset of this isn't the end...it's only the beginning.

It's Thanksgiving 🦃 break and there is a special workout 🏋️‍♀️ happening at the high school. 8am-10am. Today my high schoolers concern was "Mom what if no girls go" "what if it is packed in the weight room".

My response was the road to success is paved with great resistance. There are more average people than GREAT people in this world. Most average athletes will sleep😴 in on their Thanksgiving break. The ones who want to be GREAT will get up and do what no one else is doing. Believe me, it will not be jam packed full of athletes this morning. And as for girls, there may not be many but you stand out among them all just because you showed up for yourself.
Lastly, I reminded my daughter at the end of the day it is always you against you. So go out there and do your best🏆.

As the parent of an athlete I try to remind my children they can have the biggest dreams💭 possible and there is very little that they cannot achieve but only through hard work and perseverance will it be obtained. That means, waking up before everyone else sometimes. It also means doing what no one else is doing and finding some form of comfort with 🚣‍♀️sailing through uncharted territory.

They will learn to walk through the fire on their own and do the things they've never done. I explained to her doing so builds resiliency and she will find there is nothing she can't battle through because she did the hard things today!

For the longest time, I equated failing with being a failure. Stay under the radar. Don't stand out, because when you do, that means you're in trouble. Don't take risks because - what if??? What if you fail? What if you can't get back up? To me, it sounded like standing out or failing was a terrible thing. It terrified me!

I'm so grateful that little voice speaks louder than my upbringing, which says, 'Girl, you were made for more!' And failing, although uncomfortable, means you're actually on your way to greatness! The truth is, when faced with unfamiliarity, we can tend to be uncomfortable because we don't know what's next.
In my journey to success, I've realized that only diamonds are created under serious pressure. I'm learning to love the unfamiliarity, knowing that here lies the best version of myself and quite possibly a person I never knew existed.
