Little Wishes

Little Wishes Little Wishes grants the immediate and ongoing wishes of chronically and critically ill, hospitalized children.

Little Wishes™ makes a big difference for seriously ill, hospitalized children facing difficult journeys. A non-profit founded by two pediatric oncology/PICU nurses in 2003, Little Wishes helps prevent patients from losing their identity to illness by tapping into their passions. Young patients may identify what makes them happy and wish for something that will fill their hearts and brighten their darkest days. What makes Little Wishes unique is that a patient may wish for something every two weeks giving them a positive event to look forward to. Some children spend hours searching online for their wish, providing a sense of control and healing distraction from pain. Receiving wishes also helps little patients replace anxiety and fear with hope and joy. All wishes take place in the hospital and are delivered with fanfare by hospital staff. Milestones spent in the hospital are also celebrated including birthdays, graduations, and completion of treatment, creating a sense of community. In addition, Little Wishes provides comfort in a child's final days surrounding them with their most cherished belongings and providing memory making kits and keepsake lockets for the family to hold on to forever. Little Wishes has granted over 25,000 wishes to date. Little Wishes is a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Organization Federal Tax ID 52-2386886

Some wishes are about forever…
“I wanted to share a Little Wishes moment with you. I coordinated a bedside wedding ceremony for one of our young adult patients who is nearing end of life. One of his last wishes was to marry his girlfriend. Because of Little Wishes, we were able to have them pick out their outfits and rings, which made the day incredibly meaningful for them. Although he is currently having difficulty speaking and eating, Little Wishes also helped us honor another request of his—a specific horchata Frappuccino he had been craving. When he was able to take a few sips yesterday, he said, ‘This is all I’ve wanted.’ Thank you for making ‘silent’ wishes like this possible.” - AYA (Adolescent and Young Adult) Child Life Specialist
✨Silent Wishes are rarely shared publicly because of their sensitivity, but they are often the ones that matter most. They bring comfort, dignity, and love to children and young adults facing unimaginable circumstances. Little Wishes provides wishes from birth through age 21, made possible entirely by our community of supporters, so no family ever carries these moments alone.🙏

Today Emma received her sister’s bone marrow. For her BMT birthday, she wished to create a magical space all her own in her hospital room ✨ So we surprised her with a cozy little corner fit for a princess 👑 and of course we had a little surprise for her sister too, because saving a life deserves its own magic ✨ Little Wishes tin action 💚

Fighting cancer for the 2nd time, Noah was in isolation after his bone marrow transplant and could not leave his room. So his team got creative and turned his Little Wish into a full blown mystery called “The Case of the Missing Wish.” From his iPad, Noah directed the entire investigation over FaceTime, with every member of the medical team as a suspect while clues were chased down hallways. In the end, 🐾 cracked the case and delivered the missing wish straight to his window.Little Wishes makes sure that even in isolation, joy still shows up. 💚✨music by

Pulling her way into her next chapter. Two year old Kaelyn is cancer free! She started this journey at just one week old. From those very first days to this unforgettable moment, she has been surrounded by the people who carried her through. Hugs for her nurses. A sweet hug for Sam’s photo, her favorite facility dog. Even the cheerleaders came to celebrate her, a full circle moment after she fell in love with them at the game. We sent her off with cheers and her little wishes in hand, ready for bright days ahead. 🧚‍♀️✨

This is how you meet a 3-year-old on chemo day.
Ephraim wished for a tent and action figures. A little place to hide, play, and just be 3 before treatment started.
His medical team built it for him so when he walked in, it felt less scary and a little more like childhood.
Moments like this are why we do what we do.
This was our 250th wish 💚

Waiting for her wishes to arrive, Jayleen is finally feeling strong enough to stand by her hospital door. Complications from her cancer treatment have kept her in the hospital for over a month, much of it spent in isolation. It has been a really hard stretch.
Today, for the first time, Jayleen felt well enough to stand at the doorway and watch the world go by. A small moment, but a big win in the middle of treatment. And yes, even Omega stopped by 🐾💚

He was a Little Wishes kid in 2015. Years later, this is what he did… “I was a long-term patient at CPMC and Little Wishes was one of the things that kept me going during that difficult time. I still remember Nurse Laura’s kindness and care. I don’t know where I would be without it.
Since getting better, life has been good to me. I graduated from Rice University last year and started working full-time. I donated my first paycheck to Little Wishes as a small thank you for all you did for me and to hopefully pass along some strength and joy to kids in the same place I was not too long ago. It really does get better.
Nurse Laura, if you’re reading this, I’m sure you don’t remember me, but I certainly remember you, and I will always be grateful that you and Little Wishes were there for me at my worst. You are doing God’s work, and I have no doubt that there are many more former patients like me out there who, even as adults, will always be grateful that you were there when they needed it most.
Wishing the team all the best. Thank you so much for what you do.”
Sincerely,
Vincent

Ruby has been in the hospital for more than 100 days following her bone marrow transplant, including a long stretch when she was extremely sick in the PICU. This moment honored how far she has come, marked by a milestone wish filled with everything she loves. A Coke slushie. A FABULOUS room transformation. Fun surprises revealed to “Golden,” because that’s exactly what she is. Wishes made. Joy delivered. 💚

Rad to the bone and brave to the core…
7 year old Malachi has been waiting over 250 days for a heart transplant. Supported by a VAD (a ventricular assist device that helps his heart pump blood), his time outside his room is limited, so his special little wish was a walking treadmill, giving him a way to keep moving, build strength, and stay ready for the heart meant just for him.

Our Story

Since 2003, Little Wishes has helped seriously ill, hospitalized children from losing their identity to illness by tapping into their passions. We encourage even the tiniest of patients to identify their happiest desire and wish for something that will fill their heart and brighten their darkest days.

Each wish, no matter how simple – a princess dress, Spiderman figure, book or a musical instrument – makes a huge difference by providing a welcome diversion and easing the discomfort of long hospitalizations and painful treatments.

All wishes are granted in the hospital and delivered with fanfare and song by hospital staff to celebrate the patient and build a supportive community. Nine-year-old cancer warrior Ryker said it best: “Little Wishes gives you that ‘we can get through this feeling’,” upon receiving his wish of a crab leg dinner to curb his chemo craving.

What makes our Little Wishes™ program unique (and why we keep the gifts little) is that a qualified child may make another wish 14 days after receiving their first little wish, and every 14 days thereafter. This is really meaningful for children who endure frequent hospitalizations or for a child who has been in the hospital for weeks or months, even years at a time.
