You’re scared and confused.

You’ve tried “every” protocol but nothing works or sticks.

Your doctors say your labs are “normal”.

Yet, you still feel sick, exhausted, unheard, and dismissed.

You know something is wrong.

What your doctor may not know is that the missing piece may be TOXIC MOLD. Your environment may be making you sick.

Mold doesn’t always make a grand appearance. It can hide behind walls, in HVAC systems, under floors, in kitchen appliances, and many other places. And this is not just an old building problem. Mold can affect brand new homes as well. Just because you don’t see it, doesn’t mean it’s not affecting your health.

If you are feeling sick and nothing is working, TEST your environment for mold.

In my practice, I generally recommend starting by getting an ERMI test from mycometrics.com done or by hiring an experienced IEP (Indoor Environmental Professional) to assess the environment / home for mold.

Bleach is more that 90% water. The rest of the solution is sodium hypochlorite, a compound that contains chlorine.

Bleach = WATER + chlorine

When bleach is applied to a surface, the chlorine evaporates fast and leaves behind a LOT of water.

Now this water can soak into the porous surface (like drywall or wood) and give mold the moisture it needs to regrow and spread.

And because bleach only works on the surface, it may look like the mold is gone, but the root of the problem remains underneath.

In addition to not addressing the root of the problem and creating an environment where mold can thrive, the evaporation of chlorine releases toxic fumes that you don’t want to inhale.

A better approach is to use natural, non-toxic solutions for mold clean up. White vinegar, essential oils, hydrogen peroxide, or borax are potential options, depending on what you are cleaning up.

If the mold is growing on porous materials, it’s best to bring in a qualified professional to assess the situation.

The real solution is fixing the moisture source that is causing mold in the first place. Often, affected materials need to be replaced, not just cleaned.

Yes, with mold illness, the goal is to eventually either remediate the moldy environment or to move if remediation is not possible depending on the extent of the problem.

And while that is still in process there are things you can focus on.

Using air filters, bringing fresh air in by opening windows and doors when possible, dusting, decreasing EMF exposure, spending time in nature in touch with the earth, taking targeted supplements, and the most overlooked part is addressing the emotions and the nervous system state coupled with the mold and mycotoxins. The more the psychoemotional piece is addressed the more the body will be able to release these toxins and feel better physically.

Emotional stagnation = physical stagnation.

Zearalenone (ZEA) is a mycotoxin made by Fusarium mold species.

It can show up in grains like corn (a big one!), wheat, barley, sorghum, rice, oats when these crops are grown or stored in conditions that promote mold growth.

Since Fusarium mold species can also grow in water-damaged buildings, exposure to ZEA isn’t just through food but can come from the environment too.

Interestingly, ZEA inspired the pharmaceutical drug called zeranol (Ralgro), a non-steroidal estrogen used to promote growth in cattle.

Zearalenone is fat soluble and can accumulate in fatty tissues over time. It is mainly processed by the liver and sent out through bile to be eventually excreted through stool.

Tips to protect yourself:

Avoid contaminated foods & moldy environments.

Take binders.

Support liver detox: TUDCA, dandelion root, phosphatidylcholine

Support hormone balance: DIM and/or Indole-3-Carbinol (found in broccoli, cabbage, Brussel sprouts and other cruciferous vegetables)

Note: Saccharomyces probiotics can potentially activate ZEA.

Did mold move into your sinuses?

After living in a moldy environment, certain fungal species can take up residence in your sinuses. And stick around even after you leave or remediate the place.

These molds may produce mycotoxins and hide in biofilms that protect them from your body’s defenses. Bacteria (like MARCoNS) can join in too.

That’s why it’s important to not only support the body systemically, but also treat the sinuses locally and address the sinus ecosystem.

There are lots of different nasal treatments and strategies to address this. The the two that test ( ) most consistently for patients in my practice are:

1. Argentyn 23 Nasal Spray
2. Beekeeper’s Naturals Nasal Spray

Ochratoxin A (OTA) is mainly eliminated through the kidneys; which means they take the hardest hit when this mycotoxin is around.

On bloodwork, you may notice :
Low albumin: a sign that the kidneys’ filtering system is under stress and leaking protein (protein in the urine is a sign that kidneys are damaged)

Declining eGFR (estimated glomerular filtration rate): this test tells us how well your kidneys are filtering waste from your blood. A lower eGFR overtime means your kidneys aren’t working as efficiently as they should.

Some ways to support the kidneys during mold recovery:
1. Binders
To help take the detox burden off your kidneys by moving out the toxins through the gut instead. The gut regenerates much faster than the kidneys!

2. Renelix (Pekana)
This is a homeopathic remedy great to support kidney function.

3. Eat the rainbow
Focus on eating colorful vegetables that you tolerate. The plant compounds that give these vegetables color can help protect your kidneys.

4. Astaxanthin
To help protect the kidneys from ochratoxin A. You may also notice you need less binders.

A toxic byproduct from mold (Aspergillus and Penicillium species and Eurotium repens), mycophenolic acid (MPA), inspired the prescription drug mycophenolate (CellCept).

CellCept is used to stop the immune system from rejecting transplanted organs.

But suppressing the immune system and helping the person keep their new organ, comes at a cost. Including, increased risk of infections and certain cancers.

That’s a necessary trade-off in transplant medicine.

But what if your immune system was being suppressed ... without you knowing?

Living in a moldy environment and being exposed to MPA possess similar concerns.

MPA can negatively impact the immune system, the gut, mucosal linings, the heart, can lead to pregnancy difficulties and birth defects.

Still seeing high MPA levels after mold remediation?

Here are two main possibilities:
1. There’s still ongoing mold exposure (remediation might not be fully complete)

2. The body itself may be harboring fungal growth (colonization) producing MPA internally (this can happen in certain chronic illnesses, like some cases of breast implant illness)

How to support your body in clearing MPA?

A mold-free environment is key. But while working towards that, TUDCA, NAC, glutathione, coffee enemas, and binders can all be supportive.

Dealing with a lingering cough or other chronic lung issues?

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), fall is the season of the lungs.

Like leaves falling from a tree, this season invites us to let go and make space for new beginnings.

Lungs help us take in what nourishes us and release what no longer serves us physically, mentally, emotionally, and energetically.

The emotions associated with lungs are sadness and grief.

Aside from supporting the lungs on the physical level by addressing the environment and giving the body nutrients or herbs to support lung function. One other area I often help my patients explore is unprocessed sadness or grief, whether conscious or unconscious, personal or generational. When emotions move, the body often follows and symptoms manifesting on the physical level resolves

I find energetic clearings and or homeopathic remedies can be supportive in this process. Either helping resolve the lung symptom(s) or helping clear the path for the remedies to work more effectively on the physical level.
