Hey y’all, I need to get a little vulnerable with y’all for a second 🫣 this is a long post, but please bear with me!
I run the Marion Farmers Market, and we opened this market because we truly believe this town needs a space to grab fresh, local goods—grown, made, and crafted by members of our own community.
But we’re hitting a tough spot, and I could really use your help.
Right now, we’re in this cycle that’s hard to break:
Low foot traffic makes vendors feel discouraged → vendors stop coming → people drive by, see fewer booths, and decide not to stop → and then we’re right back where we started.
We’ve started to see foot traffic picking back up (yay!)—but vendors still get discouraged because it doesn’t look like those big farmers markets with 40+ booths and lines of people. So we believe they are comparing and then they don’t come back.(We do have vendors who are there every weekend and we appreciate y’all so much!!)
Honestly, I get it. But here’s what I also see:
The people who do come? Y’all show up to buy. You support the vendors who are sticking with it, and that means everything. I see talk of people wanting something just like this but they don’t even know it exists.
Giving up is not an option. This market was built to help support local businesses and bring something good to this community. This market is an investment and we can’t do it alone!
So here’s where I need y’all:
• We know we need produce—trust me, we’ve reached out to 30+ farmers and they’re already tied to other markets.
• Do you know anyone with a garden and extra produce who might want to set up a table?
• Do you know someone who makes things—sauces, canned goods, jerky, dairy products, plants, pottery, ANYTHING local?
Even if they’ve never sold before—we’ll help them get set up and figure it out!
Also… we’d love your feedback:
• What do you want to see at the market?
• Is every Saturday from 9:30–2 a good time for you?
• Would you prefer something else—once a month? Different hours?
We want this market to work. We really do. It’s still new, and it’s going to take time to grow—but it has so much potential. We just need vendors who are willing to stick with it, and a community that believes in it as much as we do.
If you’ve got thoughts, ideas, or connections, drop them in the comments or shoot me a message. We appreciate y’all so much!
