Center Against Forced Abortions Problem

Many teenage girls are being coerced into abortion by their parents.

The Justice Foundation’s Center Against Forced Abortions (CAFA) was created to provide educational resources to empower women who are being forced, unduly pressured, or coerced into an unwanted abortion. Pregnancy resource centers are generally unequipped to help legally defend these clients, and subsequently coerced abortions occur
Even under Roe v. Wade, the decision to keep the child is supposedly the woman’s alone, so these young women’s rights are being violated when they are coerced into abortion. Response

The Justice Foundation has created a “Dear Parent Letter,” which (in a friendly, helpful, and serious manner) informs the teen mother’s parents that they could be guilty of illegal actions if they force their daughter to have an abortion. Combined with Life Dynamics’s Letter to Abortionists, which is a signed statement indicating the mother’s non-consent to an abortion, the two documents form a powerful legal defense that empowers the teen mother to stand for her child. Effectiveness

Gives pregnancy centers a proven strategy to defend teens from parentally coerced abortions
Equips the teen mother with legal documents empowering her decision to keep her child
Trial distributions indicate the strategy is very effective. If just one baby is saved at two out of every three pregnancy resource centers that receive the letter and training, then CAFA will facilitate the protection of 2,000 babies lives.

The Dark Side of Deregulation: Coerced Abortion Incidents on the Rise, by Catalina Scheider Galiñanes

"New legislation popping up across the country expose a terrible reality: ‘Abortion drugs have become a tool of domestic violence…’

An expectant mother should be thinking of baby names and all of the happy things associated with the birth of a new child — not fighting for her life and the life of her unborn.

But that’s what happened to Texas mother Catherine Herring as the victim of an abortion-pill attack."

"Surrogate Recalls Pain She And Baby Felt After The Child’s Parents Demanded Abortion" by Jordan Boyd, The Federalist

"Thanks to assisted reproductive technology and surrogacy, even people who don’t want or deserve children can buy their way to parenthood. Such was the case with one couple who, after nearly nine months of demanding their surrogate Heathyr abort, left a hospital in 2020 with a baby boy in their arms.

Single mother Heathyr went into the surrogacy application and matching process, hoping she would “be on the same page” with the couple about ending the life of the unborn child."

‘So much work, medication, and money went into this baby and they still are asking me if I'm going to terminate,’ Heathyr recalled.

"Abortion Pills, Coercion, and Abuse" by Melanie Israel. Policy Analyst, DeVos Center for Life, Religion, and Family

"Across the country, men coerce or even force pregnant women to take pills that induce an abortion. Some of these use abortion pills to cover up abuse. We have no way to know the full scope of this problem. But we do know that this problem will get worse – not better – if pro-abortion policymakers continue to champion the abortion industry at the expense of women’s health and safety."

"Women who feel pressured to agree to abortion are more likely to experience negative emotional and mental health reactions. But relatively little research has been conducted to explore the types and degree of pressures women face and their associated effects. Our study aims to investigate five types of pressure women may face and a sample of effects that may be associated with unwanted abortions."
