This post is for those that may have moved away or those that have not have heard the sad news. There is a link where you can donate toward the bottom of the post and a post from Jeremiah’s mom Ms. Heard.
Early this morning (5 days ago) I received a call from a close friend, informing me that a student that I had coached, mentored had been involved in a motorcycle accident and had passed away. Now when you are in education you quickly find that you find the students that are role model children. Those that treat everyone with respect, never ask questions when you need help and most importantly the students that you look at as being your school son / daughter. I was blessed to have found several but I held a hand full very close to my heart and would have done anything for them. Jeremiah Hogan was one of those that I held close to me heart. I still remember him telling his friends that I was really his dad and them believing him. Not only did he have a heart of gold, but you didn’t have to ask him to do something that helped the school or other students. I would turn around and he was already doing what needed to be done. Not only did he volunteer but my school son was very athletic. When I needed players for my soccer team and his response was I’ve never played but I’ll do it. Needless to say he became the goalie and it didn’t take long for him to become a team leader. He excelled in every sport that he played in…. Volleyball, soccer, football and his true love basketball. During his last season Jeremiah wasn’t eligible to play due to being 19. So I signed him up for a competitive league, paid the dues and drove him to his practices and games. He quickly molded with the team because he was a team player. To me he was more than just a team player, he was a winner and he was my school son. After going through our text messages I recall every time something good would happen to him he would run to my office to tell me. Just like the first time he dunked the basketball or when he broke the ankles of our security officer that played him one on one. I had to give him a hard time and say, “you know that didn’t happen!” Of course he would dispute my statement and I would have to pull the video to watch those little moments that made him so proud. There was not a time that I would do something for him, whether it be doing a favor or relationship advice (I probably wasn’t the best choice for giving such advice lol), he would tell me how he appreciative he was. Jeremiah was more than just an student in my school…. He was a true friend, a brother, a twin, a son, an Uncle, a BF, most recently a father to a baby girl, and to me he was my son.
He is loved and will be missed.
Rest In Peace Jeremiah

Make sure y’all turn on the volume for that first video. It was probably his 10th time watching the video and he was still cracking up. I did get clearance from the security officer to post. He said in bad times like this, if this makes some of you smile it will be worth it. Cheryl Lynette Verdree-Heard Jadelyn Marie Kevin James Matt Alva Monica Mendoza

I would open the gym on weekends and we would work for hours. At times he would hit 10+ in a row like a machine.
