Using the words "not optional" sounds....offensive. I'm using it anyway, because postpartum care is essential and not optional šŸ˜‚.
Every mother, everywhere needs care. We were never, ever meant to do it alone. I think if we were then it wouldn't take two people to make a baby.
Postpartum care isn't just for the affluent either. It isn't a luxury that some women enjoy and some don't. While you can pay for care, and that's where I and many like me come in, you can also receive care for free, you just have to ask.
In fact, in many not so affluent countries the postpartum care their mother's receive is beyond what we could ever imagine here. It's rich in love and tenderness, tradition, community, honor and sacredness.
All of this is available for you. If family and friends aren't an option, I am here for you. If family and friends don't know how to care for you or you aren't sure how to ask, I am here for you.
Postpartum care for mothers is being revived. Will you be a part of it?

This weeks herb/oil: Lavender!!

Lavender (herb and essential oil) should be a staple in every mother’s home. I can’t tell you how many times I say ā€œJust put some lavender on itā€. When one of my kids is having a hard time processing a challenging emotion I suggest they sniff some lavender. Great for any bites or stings. It is typically known for its calming, relaxing and sleep promoting abilities, but has other actions as well which include:

-depression
-digestive issues
-healing
-pain reducing
-wound healing
-anxiety

From the book Alchemy of Herbs: ā€œOne study looked at the effects of lavender and rose aromatherapy in women who were at high risk for postpartum depression. After two and then four weeks, the women receiving aromatherapy treatments showed significant improvements over those in the control group.ā€

A few ways to use Lavender for mama:
Essential Oil (I use Young Living and the ratios are based on this fact):

Bath Salts
2 Cups Epsom Salt
½ Cup Sea Salt
2 drops Lavender essential oil
Mix all ingredients and use right away or store in airtight container for later use.

Herb (I grow my own and also use Mountain Rose Herbs):

Mother’s Milk Tea Blend ( Aviva Romm’s )
1 ounce dried chamomile flowers
1 ounce dried catnip
¼ ounce fennel seeds
1/8 ounce dried lavender flowers
Combine all herbs. Place 1 TBSP of the mix in a stainless steel mesh or disposable tea bag, place in a beautiful mug, pour boiling water over and steep for at least 10 minutes.
Lavender is super universal and can be used so many different ways.
I encourage you to experiment for yourself, build a relationship with this plant. The more we know about someone the more we trust them and are open to them, let it be the same with plants!

Postpartum is a time period
A sacred space
It isn’t linear
Rather, it is Expansive
It is time, yet beyond time
An Echo
A Ripple
A Quake
Radiant Heat

It’s essence, if allowed
will move forward and back.
The breath of new life
is the core, the center
As a voice
Beat
Shift
Spark
Forward, for baby, mother, family, whole
Back, for those who’ve gone before, ancestors, whole

Postpartum isn’t a condition
Something to get through
We don’t fight it
We don’t rush it along
How soon can I get back to normal?
Normal is now
Normal is this moment
Release the concept of normal
Embrace the beauty of now

Postpartum isn’t a dis-ease
Something to be fixed or corrected
Medicated, shamed, or guilted
We don’t need treatment
We need empowerment
We don’t need a prescription
We need a decryption
Illumination, Clarity

The Code has been left, threads through time
We don’t get back to what was, but bring forward what has always been
Love, touch, warmth
Recognition of the Divine’s constant presence
Not in us, but as Us
Through
Those who listen
Those who touch
Those who tend

We all love to know what has worked for others and products they love the most. I’m going to be periodically sharing about some of the herbs and oils I use for myself and clients. You’ll learn a little about what it is and why it’s helpful, plus how to use it!
First up, Gentle Baby essential oil!

What’s in it?

Coriander
Geranium
Palmarosa
Lavender
Ylang ylang
Roman chamomile
Bergamot
Lemon
Jasmine
Rose

It’s amazing for skin! Mix with carrier oil and use on babies bottom to soothe irritation.

It can be used for sore ni***es. Dilute and use to help heal fungal/yeast issues.

Great on tummy during pregnancy and post for no stretch marks and to help with loose skin. Some mothers use it for smooth healthy skin on their face.

Diffuse or use topically to support mama/baby bonding. It is a great oil for emotions. When you are feeling overwhelmed or like the world is too much this oil gives a feeling of soothing, calm and comfort. Gentle Baby evokes tranquil, nurtured feelings that can be wonderful when used as part of inner reflection or meditation. Nurture that inner child!

Uplifting, relaxing, balancing.
That sounds like a blissful pregnancy and postpartum!
