If you're in the teaching field, you know the concept! Something happens, a student reacts a certain way, and something else happens that either makes is more or less likely that it will happen again.

It's the 3-term contingency! (A)ntecedent, (B)ehavior, (C)onsequence

A: Bell rings to end recess
B: Student runs the other way
C: Teacher chases student

A: "It's time for lunch!"
B: Student goes to cubby and get lunch box and lines up.
C: Class walks to lunch and student sits next to favorite friend.

A: Student wants to play with friend, but another friend is already there.
B: Student hits other friend.
C: That student cries and runs to teacher.

You have a TON of examples, I'm sure. The ABC is just the first step to analyzing a behavior, whether you want it to increase or decrease. It's the place to start!

What was happening before, what did the behavior look like, and what happened after.

Super fun game! Our clients picked a cup and punched it open to reveal a prize. They had to answer a social skill prompt to keep the prize! They loved it!
