Meet Manola & Maria Ramirez! 🎨✨

Thanks to the generosity of our donors Patty and Rene Escobedo in tribute to Dolores Taboada Escobedo, these talented sisters and UT Austin grads are the newest artists-in-residence for University Health’s SaludArte: Art of Healing program! From murals around Downtown San Antonio and the Pearl to inspiring new printmaking pieces at University Health’s Main Campus and Texas Diabetes Institute, their work is all about bringing creativity, color and comfort to our community.

We caught up with them to talk about their artistic journey, what they’re creating during their residency, and how art can transform healing spaces for patients and families. Plus, we had a little fun with a round of “Who’s More Likely” 🙋‍♀️

Stay tuned for more as there will be updates about their incredible work!

We witnessed a truly historic moment on Friday. The University Health Transplant Institute made history with the first-ever seven-pair living donor liver transplant exchange, a complex and highly coordinated process that matched seven generous donors with seven patients in need of life-saving transplants.

In honor of National Donate Life Month, University Health hosted a special reveal at the University Health Women’s & Children’s Hospital, bringing together all 14 participants for the first time. It was an emotional and powerful experience that celebrated the generosity and courage of the donors and the new life given to each recipient.

University Health Foundation was proud to learn that our donor-funded da Vinci robotic surgical system played a key role in many of their procedures, highlighting how philanthropy continues to empower our physicians at University Health to deliver advanced life-saving care.

Last week, the Foundation hosted our Experience the Power of Art in Healing event, celebrating University Health's SaludArte Program.

Guests heard from University Health Executive Curator Allison Hays Lane and visionary artist Ansen Seale about how art is transforming health care environments into spaces of healing, hope, and comfort for patients, families and team members.

We also got a glimpse into Ansen’s upcoming work at University Health Retama hospital 👀🖼️.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for an evening of meaningful conversation. To learn more about the SaludArte Program, click the link: https://ow.ly/Ijcx50YAUhS

Once little girls with big dreams ✨, now they are leaders who make a powerful impact on our community.

As comes to a close, we’re reflecting on the early chapters of the women on our team who help drive our mission forward. 🌸

There’s never a wrong time to thank your doctor, the ones who listen, who sit with us and who walk beside us when it matters most.

In honor of National Doctors' Day, we’re proud to share how the Foundation is celebrating physicians across University Health. For the last two weeks, our team visited University Health Women’s & Children’s Hospital, Sky Tower, and the Robert B. Green Campus, where we invited patients, families, team members and visitors to write heartfelt notes of thanks on specially designed postcards 💙.

As you go about your day, take a moment to express your gratitude, whether through a note, a kind word, or a simple “thank you.” You can also honor a physician by making a gift through the link in our bio.

According to studies conducted by University Health’s Institute for Public Health, more than 12% of Bexar County residents have diabetes, which is higher than both state and national averages.

To help address this challenge, we’ve received a $50,000 donation from Aetna® to launch a 12-part video series, Cooking with Joy, filmed at the University Health Texas Diabetes Institute Teaching Kitchen.

The series will help patients learn how to prepare simple, healthy, affordable and culturally relevant meals that support diabetes management. Additionally, it will also help build cooking confidence and nutrition literacy.
