Happy International Women’s Day! 💜 Today also marks the beginning of Catholic Sisters Week, so it felt like the perfect time to look back at last year’s photoshoot with our Sisters. 📸

We asked each Sister to bring an item that reflected something meaningful about who they are — a favorite hobby, a treasured keepsake, or something they love. The resulting photos captured their individuality, spirit, and the joy they bring to our community. 🥰

Thank you, Sisters, for the wisdom, compassion, and steady leadership you share with our Village every day. We are truly grateful for each of you. Praised be the Incarnate Word! 💜

Bocce season is here and our residents are loving it! 😍

The weather has been great for afternoon games and the new turf makes our Dubuis House courtyard an excellent place to play. What other yard games should we try next? ☀️💚

We’re excited to share that our Director of Nursing, Dan Nixon, has been selected to receive the 2026 Dr. Herbert Shore Outstanding Mentor Award from LeadingAge Texas! 💚

Dan is a lifelong mentor and servant leader who has spent more than 33 years dedicated to geriatrics, shaping generations of nurses, caregivers, and administrators through his commitment to compassionate, high‑quality care.

We couldn’t be prouder and can’t wait to cheer him on at the LeadingAge Texas Annual Conference in May. Congratulations, Dan! 😄💚

What a wonderful tribute to Sr. Alice, and a beautiful reminder of the profound influence our CCVI Sisters continue to share throughout the Greater San Antonio community and across the world! 🕊️

This tribute was written by ABODE Co-Founder Edwin Sasek

Sister Alice Holden, spiritual friend and a guiding force in creating ABODE 16 years ago, transitioned into new life this week. She was 91 years old. A Sister of Charity of the Incarnate Word, she was an advisory board member for many years. A mystic, spiritual companion, poet, author and artist, her creative loving spirit will linger and bless through and through.  Meet Sister Alice, introducing herself, in her poem, Alice.

ALICE

I wear a garment called Alice,

The incarnation chosen this time ‘round.

In this reality seeming

Like a proper woman:

Sometimes like a nun,

Sometimes like a poet

Fretting and fuming

Juggling words

To make sense of it all.

I’m comfortable enough with this garb

Though it often hides my true Self & Soul

Under layers of shoulds and oughts,

And nettings of nebulous thought.

With a precious few I choose

To de-vest.

I become Self or Soul,

But then forget and begin again

To appear, even to them,

Like a needy beggar.

Today I am my Self,

Light and joyous,

Filled with Faith to move mountains

And humility to let them fall.

I look forward to the day

When I’ll shed this garb,

This worn, torn,

Tailored-print-of-Self

Like a tight shoe*

And breathe a sign of release,

Dissolving into Soul.

Ah…

Alice Holden, CCVI 9/9/99

This Easter season, we invite you to honor or remember a loved one by sponsoring an Easter Lily at The Village at Incarnate Word. 🌸🤍

Each lily will be placed — along with your name and/or your loved one’s name — in one of our chapels throughout the Easter season, a beautiful symbol of resurrection and hope. ➡ Donate online: https://villageatincarnateword-bloom.kindful.com/?campaign=1402570

Your lily sponsorship is a tax‑deductible gift that supports Spiritual Life at The Village at Incarnate Word. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit senior living community, our mission is to extend the healing ministry of Jesus Christ to all those we serve. Your generosity helps us continue offering daily Mass, Eucharistic Adoration, pastoral care, prayer groups, Bible studies, and meaningful spiritual support for our residents. 🙏

The deadline to sponsor an Easter Lily is March 25, 2026 at 12 PM.

Thank you for helping our mission bloom this Easter! 💜
