You marry, have kids, and move. You make sacrifices like attending night school for your degree while working full time. All of these life-changing events change you for the better, right? But what happens when you work so hard to improve your financial situation and family that you forget to invest time into making changes to your body? Your life can change drastically just by investing some time in strength training.

That's right—if you're willing to commit to strength training, your life will drastically change in seven ways. Here they are.

Change #1: Make Muscle Gains

The muscle gain change is quite apparent when you observe who's in the weight room. When you implement a strength training regimen, your body shapes quickly. When working with me as your trainer, I can help you determine an appropriate strength-training regimen that will give your body your desired look. As a result, you will feel better and more confident when you achieve your ideal image. But lifting weights isn't just about looking good…

Change #2: Health Risks Decrease

Want to reduce your health risks significantly? Then start lifting. When you start, you'll discover your body's defenses against colds and other illnesses drastically improve. But that's not all. Change #3: Stamina Increases

Are you tired of feeling exhausted after a hard day at work? Do you wish you had the stamina to play with your kids on the weekends? Going longer, however, is reserved for something other than the athletic field.

With all the distractions in the world, mental focus is a discipline that requires constant practice. After adding strength training to your daily routine, suddenly, your brain starts to focus on the task at hand, helping you develop discipline. It wakes the brain in a way, and once it awakens, you're ready for the next task.

Life is challenging. And when life hits you in full force, life's stressors can be overwhelming. When you're stressed, you may fall into sadness or even depression. Lifting weights regularly is the best prescription. Strength training gives your body what it needs to fight depression and improve your mood by producing serotonin.

Change #7: You'll Live in the Present

Planning and knowing what you're doing with your life is good. However, if you spend too much time worrying about what you will do tomorrow or next week or when you retire in 10 years, you're missing out on something significant: the present. When you strength train, you're forced to focus on the task at hand because there are dire consequences like an injury if you don't. By incorporating strength training, your life improves because you finally learn to live in the moment, a skill that translates to increased life satisfaction.

Here's a sandwich high in protein and big in flavor. It's an organic tuna sandwich, and the result is creamy, satisfying, and nutritious. The crunchy bites of tangy pickles are fantastic, and there is nothing better than using a fresh cut of wild-caught Ahi tuna.

This recipe is great to pack for lunch to keep you on track with your healthy eating throughout your workday. Enjoy!

What you need

Servings: 2

6oz of fresh wild-caught tuna cut 2 inches in height

2 tablespoons of organic olive oil

1 tablespoon of organic sweet and spicy teriyaki sauce

1 tablespoon of organic grass-fed butter

¼ cup organic pickles, chopped

3 tablespoons of organic mayonnaise

1 Tablespoon fresh organic dill, minced

½ teaspoon sea salt

¼ teaspoon organic black pepper

2 organic butter lettuce leaves for serving

2 slices of Dave's Killer Bread white bread done right

3 organic sweet cherry tomatoes, sliced

Lemon Zest Sprinkle

Lemon Juice To Taste

Instructions

1. Pan-sear fresh tuna on each side for two and a half minutes in 2 tablespoons of organic olive oil. Add 1 tablespoon of organic grass fed butter and butter-baste the tuna.

2. Once basted, turn the heat off from the pan, add 1 tablespoon of organic sweet and spicy teriyaki sauce to the tuna, and coat evenly. Let the tuna sit for two minutes to cool.

2. Combine the tuna, eggs, pickles, mayonnaise, dill, sea salt, and pepper in a large bowl. Mix well until creamy and thoroughly combined.

4. Chill the Tuna mixture for 20 minutes covered.

5. Toast two slices of Dave's Killer Bread, White bread done right. Once the bread is toasted, coat the bread slices with butter and add two butter lettuce leaves, 3 tomatoes, 4 slices of pickles, and 3 oz. of tuna mix, smash, slice and serve. Enjoy!

Nutrition

One serving equals: 217 calories, 4g fat, 20g carbohydrate, 1g fiber, and 25g protein.

One of the best ways to dramatically improve your body and your fitness level is to participate in a challenge. It is a chance to take a hard look at where you currently stand with your weight and conditioning and to set a goal with an end date for making significant changes and progress.

It’s your opportunity to produce impressive ā€œbeforeā€ and ā€œafterā€ photos.

Do you have what it takes to stick with a challenge all the way through? Will you stick with the diet plan and avoid falling for temptations? Will you show up to your workouts day after day, even when your muscles are tired and sore?

The key to success is to be deeply disturbed by your current shape. Recognize that your body is no longer in sync with the body you can accept for yourself.

Why are you still living life in your ā€œbeforeā€ body?

Sure, you have obstacles that get in your way – your schedule, your job, your kids, the weather, your knee injury from college…but ultimately, you have the body that you accept.

I’m going to repeat that so that it will sink in.

You have the body that you accept.

Transform from ā€œBeforeā€ to ā€œAfterā€

You may not realize it, but you already possess everything you need to crush a fitness challenge by transforming your body, and it all starts with taking responsibility for the body that you have today.

You are in your current shape because, until this moment, you’ve been OK with it.

Oh, I know you aren’t thrilled with it, and you even talk about dropping body fat and getting fit—but you haven’t changed what you’ll accept.

Here’s how to Crush a Fitness Challenge in 3 steps:

Step One: Feel Disturbed

Emotion creates motion and is essential for personal transformation. To transform your body, you must first decide that you can’t live another day in your current body.

Get your emotions stirred up. Make a list of all the reasons that you’re ready to lose fat and get fit. Get disturbed.

Step Two: Decide What You Want

Without clarity, you’ll never get where you want to go. So now that you’re disturbed with the body you have, you must decide what body you envision.

Think in concrete and specific terms. For example, do you want to drop 50 lbs? Would you like to lose 8 inches from your waist? Or is your ultimate goal to start from a size 14 and shrink to a size 8?

Get a clear picture in your mind of what you’ll look like in your ā€œafterā€ picture. The more specific, the better.

Step Three: Take Action

The time spent between your inspiration (now) and taking action determines whether you will succeed or fail. Don’t allow yourself to get stuck between inspiration and action—there is always something that you can do immediately.

To really succeed with your fat loss goal, it’s important to keep your meals light, lean, and filled with protein. Try this recipe for marinating and grilling chicken. Make lots and pack for a week of healthy lunches paired with veggies or dark leafy greens.

What you need

Servings: 4

1 ½ Cup Sake

½ Cup Coconut Aminos (or light soy sauce)

¼ Cup Swerve sweetener - sugar replacement

2 Tablespoon Olive Oil

1 Tablespoon Garlic- minced

3-inch Piece of Ginger, thinly sliced

Salt and Pepper

2 LBS Boneless, Skinless Chicken Thighs, trimmed

Instructions

1. Preheat the grill to medium-high.

2. Combine the sake, coconut aminos, swerve, olive oil, Garlic, and ginger in a large ziplock bag. Generously salt and pepper the chicken thighs and add to the marinade bag. Seal the bag and place it in the fridge for 1 to 4 hours, turning once.

3. Grill the chicken thighs on each side for 4-6 minutes or until cooked thoroughly. Enjoy!

Nutrition

One serving equals: 493 calories, 10g fat, 9g carbohydrate, 3g fiber, and 56g protein.

The single best way to achieve your goals
We are living in a have-it-all, have-it-now world. Access to anything you desire is literally a keystroke away.

There’s one-click ordering. There’s food delivery in 30 minutes or less. There’s credit available with the swipe of a card.

More so than at any time in history, we have forgotten the art of sacrifice.

Can you blame us? Mainstream marketing tells us hundreds of times each day that we should have it all and that we should have it right now.

The problem with this have-it-all-right-now mindset is that real accomplishments require sacrifice and delayed gratification. And these real accomplishments are where true satisfaction is found.

Think about it for a moment. When was the last time you felt proud of something you’ve done? I doubt that it was for the shoe purchase that you just one-click ordered online :) More likely, it was for a big project you tackled at work, a meal you cooked for your family, or an 8K (or marathon!) that you finished.

Those proud moments have one thing in common: they all required sacrifice and delayed gratification. You gave up your time, invested your attention and efforts, and put in the miles.

And then you achieved your goal and experienced that sweet satisfaction.

Learning how to sacrifice and delay gratification, rather than getting something right now, is a skill set. This skill set can grow as you use it more often. Just like a muscle that becomes stronger under resistance, your ability to sacrifice your immediate needs in favor of a more significant accomplishment will improve the more you use it.

Sacrifice and delayed gratification are the name of the game when it comes to getting into great shape. Get comfortable with sacrifice, and you’ll achieve any goal.

I know that’s not what any of us want to hear. We prefer the one-click-to-dream-body button over months of a controlled diet plan and challenging workouts. But by embracing and enhancing your ability to sacrifice, you’ll gain traction on all your big life goals, including getting that dream body.

There’s nothing quite as inspiring as a truly jaw-dropping before and after picture. But, of course, I’m talking about a 50+ pound weight loss where someone looks like an entirely new person.

It’s striking how much younger people look when the extra fat comes off. An attractive, happy, energetic person was inside of them all along.

Many popular magazines showcase transformation success stories like this at the beginning of a new year. Flip through the pages of before and after photos, and it’s hard not to feel inspired to make healthy changes in your own life.

Creamy Tuna Lettuce Boats

These Creamy Tuna Lettuce Boats are exactly the type of meal you should eat to see noticeable improvements in your body. Albacore tuna is a lean protein that provides essential macronutrients to help your muscles develop and recover from your workouts.

To boost the fiber content, we are adding some finely chopped celery, red onion, and parsley in addition to whole-grain mustard. Resist the urge to spread this divine tuna salad over toast and give it a try over crunchy butter lettuce leaves instead. Enjoy!

What you need

Servings: 6

15oz canned albacore tuna, packed in water
½ cup white bean hummus
½ cup celery, finely minced
2 Tablespoons red onion, finely minced
2 Tablespoons whole-grain mustard
1 teaspoon fresh parsley, minced

Instructions

Green Bean, Egg and Quinoa Salad

Here’s a tasty way to eat your green beans – tossed with quinoa, sliced plum, and topped with hard-boiled eggs. This type of salad, where the base is a steamed vegetable and protein is added on top, makes a phenomenally fit meal that will help get you to your fitness goals faster than ever. Enjoy!

What you need

Servings: 4

1 cup cooked red quinoa

2 cups green beans, steamed and cut into 1-inch pieces

How to Achieve Your Fitness Goals
Do you have a specific fitness goal that you are hoping to achieve? This goal could be a number on the scale or a clothing size. Or maybe you want to wear a particular cut or style of clothes like strappy tank tops, shorts, or a bathing suit.

While having this goal is great, it will NOT guarantee success.

You knew that, though, because this isn’t the first time you’ve had a fitness goal. A goal that you didn’t meet. In fact, you probably know dozens of other people who also have struggled to meet their fitness goals.

Here’s the typical scenario: you get all pumped up to lose weight and get into shape by starting completely gung-ho. Your enthusiasm lasts about two weeks before old habits and routines slide back into place, cutting your results off before reaching your goal. Then your goal begins to fade from your mind, and life goes on.

The problem, my friend, was your initial focus on the result rather than a sustained focus on the process. Let me break this down for you…

Quinoa Chocolate Chip Cookies

Yes, it is possible to make cookies that are wholesome, filled with low-glycemic sweetness, and in line with our fitness lifestyle. These Quinoa Chocolate Chip Cookies are a great example of a recipe that takes healthy ingredients to create a sweet taste that’s guilt-free and just as enjoyable as traditional cookies.

What makes these cookies healthier than Mrs. Fields?

It’s gluten free: I used a combination of the cooked quinoa and blanched almond flour rather than traditional white grain flour.

It’s free of cane sugar and low glycemic: No refined cane sugar in these sweet morsels, just some unrefined coconut sugar. It’s also possible to sub out some of the coconut sugar for a bit of liquid stevia if you’d like to lower the sugar grams even more.

The chocolate is stevia-sweetened: To keep our sugars in check even more I’ve used Lily’s chocolate chips which are sweetened with stevia and contain zero cane sugar.

The serving size: Using 1 heaping teaspoon of dough will get you 48 petite cookies, which make portion control easy. You can enjoy a little cookie without taking in too many calories!
