Today, we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
His vision of a Beloved Community inspires our work each day at CHRISTUS Health.
As this year’s theme reminds us, Mission Possible II: Building Community, Uniting a Nation the Nonviolent Way, Dr. King’s message is more than history. It’s a call to action. May we continue to extend the healing ministry of Jesus Christ by choosing love, pursuing justice and lifting one another up.

Wishing everyone a meaningful and reflective MLK Jr. Day.

Hernias of the abdominal wall and groin, such as ventral and inguinal hernias, are among the most commonly repaired types of hernias. Using robotic-assisted surgery with the da Vinci 5 System, surgeons like Dr. Michael Corneille are able to perform minimally invasive procedures with greater precision, smaller incisions, and faster recovery times for patients.

In 2025, the Friends of CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Foundation hosted two incredible events that made a lasting difference. At the National Speakers Luncheon, we honored John and Rita Feik with the Beacon Award for their impact on health care, education, and the arts, while Emmy-nominated filmmaker Amanda Brinkman inspired guests with her keynote on purpose-driven leadership. Proceeds supported women’s health initiatives, including unfunded mammograms through our Mobile Mammography Unit, bringing life-saving screenings to underserved communities.
The 14th annual Sister Michele O’Brien Golf for Friends Tournament raised over $148,500 to benefit our health system. Thank you to title sponsor HHS and all who joined us!
Together, we’re building healthier communities.

After experiencing a heart attack at work, Herbert Bryant was rushed to our Westover Hills Hospital, where he received life-saving care from Dr. Renata Ford and her team. He had multiple blockages in his heart and aorta, requiring surgery. The exceptional care he received not only saved his life but also changed his perspective. He was deeply moved by the compassion of his care team, who supported him through the emotional challenges of recovery, including providing him with in-home nursing and therapy, which helped him regain his strength. Amazed by the impact of his caregivers, Herbert now wants to pursue a career in nursing to give others the same level of care he received.

"I haven't felt this great in years," he said. "They changed my life. Now I want to do the same for someone else."

Our Story

CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Health System was founded in 1869 by the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word. The sisters heeded the call from the Catholic bishop of Texas to care for the multitude of sick, infirm, and orphaned in the Texas frontier. When the sisters arrived in San Antonio, the population was only 12,000 and there was no public hospital - until the sisters founded CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital.
