Our halls were filled with color, energy and a whole lot of Fiesta spirit this week as our day and night shift Associates came together to celebrate!

Fiesta is about community, and that’s exactly what our Associates create every day. The same personal connections shared over tacos and laughter are what our caregivers bring to every patient interaction, delivering care that is not only reliable but deeply personal.

This Volunteer Month, we’re celebrating the many ways volunteering can open doors, and sometimes even shape your future. Donna Pineda, a student at The Alamo Colleges District, found her path through the Alamo on-the-job program. Donna has been volunteering in the NICU at Westover Hills. She rolls blankets, restocks supplies and supports care teams behind the scenes, but what she’s gaining goes far beyond hands-on experience.
By stepping into the hospital environment, Donna is exploring her future in healthcare, connecting what she learns in the classroom to real-life moments, discovering new career possibilities and seeing firsthand how a care team works together.

During National Foot Health Awareness Month, Foot and Ankle Surgeon Dr. Bryce Karulak encourages people to pay closer attention to their foot and ankle health. According to Dr. Karulak, untreated foot pain often limits activity and mobility. Over time, that loss of movement can negatively affect overall health and longevity. Many patients adapt their lives around pain or old injuries instead of seeking care, and can sometimes end up in a wheelchair. But Dr. Karulak says early evaluation can prevent long-term damage. He urges everyone to make foot and ankle health a routine part of their overall care.

This Fiesta season, we’re proud to celebrate two incredible Associates selected as El Rey y La Reina: Veronica Sanchez, NICU RN, and Mykal Torres from Central Supply, both crowned because of their heart, service and Fiesta spirit 👑🎉
Veronica brings compassion and expertise to our tiniest patients, making a difference from their very first moments. Mykal works behind the scenes to ensure our teams have the supplies they need to deliver exceptional care every day. Together, they represent the dedication, culture and community that define CHRISTUS.

Fiesta season is almost here, and with big crowds comes a big opportunity to be prepared 💃🎉. We’ve been out in the community sharing the Fiesta spirit—and teaching hands-only CPR. Because when thousands gather to celebrate, knowing how to act in an emergency can save a life.

Before you head out to VIVA, take a moment to learn (or refresh) this simple skill. It’s quick, it’s easy, and it could make all the difference. Brush up at https://christus.io/cprbasics.

Comfy, cozy and committed to safe sleep 💤💜
For National Wear Your PJs to Work Day, we’re raising awareness for our littlest patients. Most sleep-related infant deaths happen in the first 3 months, often when babies aren’t placed in a crib or bassinet. Our team is committed to ensuring our families have the tools for a safe sleep environment: Alone, on their back and in a crib.

Being prepared matters. Being prepared for your health starts with a plan. During National Health Care Decisions Day, it's important to remember that completing advance directives to improve end-of-life conversations should be as commonplace as financial planning. Unfortunately, only a third of people have completed these legal documents. Whether it's a Medical Power of Attorney or a Directive to Physicians and Family or Surrogates, taking time to document your wishes today helps ensure your voice is heard, your values are respected, and your loved ones are supported when decisions matter most.

Our Story

CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Health System was founded in 1869 by the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word. The sisters heeded the call from the Catholic bishop of Texas to care for the multitude of sick, infirm, and orphaned in the Texas frontier. When the sisters arrived in San Antonio, the population was only 12,000 and there was no public hospital - until the sisters founded CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital.
