From migraines to back pain to post-op pain and neuropathy, Interventional Pain Specialist Dr. Jennifer Erian treats a wide range of conditions at her clinic. Common procedures she performs include blocks, Botox, joint injections, and platelet-rich plasma injections. More advanced procedures include spinal cord stimulations and kyphoplasties. Dr. Erian says most patients she sees come in for back pain, and she prefers a conservative approach that includes therapy, motor imaging, and a physical exam to check for neurologic changes. Dr. Erian cites Botox as her favorite part of the treatment process, as patients suffering from a migraine can see a dramatic difference, and being able to take that suffering away from them is rewarding.

In honor of Black History Month, we are honoring our black saints and holy figures like Blessed Marie-Clémentine Anuarite Nengapeta. Born in Congo in 1939, she became a religious sister with the Holy Family Sisters and lived with deep faith during a time of civil war. In 1964, rebels attacked her convent, and she was assaulted and killed for refusing violence and remaining faithful. Even in her final moments, she proclaimed forgiveness: “I forgive you for you do not know what you do.” Beatified by Pope St. John Paul II in 1985, her life remains a profound testament to courage, mercy and the power of forgiveness.

In honor of Black History Month, we are celebrating our black saints and holy figures like Saint Charles Lwanga. One of the 22 Ugandan martyrs, Saint Charles Lwanga is the patron of youth and Catholic action in much of tropical Africa. In the royal court of Uganda, he courageously protected fellow young pages from immoral demands and strengthened them in their faith during imprisonment. Baptized shortly before his death, Charles inspired others to remain faithful and steadfast. He was martyred by burning on June 3, 1886, and his legacy continues to inspire courage, purity and devotion among generations of believers.

Rosemary Baran came to our Westover Hills hospital after a heart attack, where doctors discovered her aorta was 99 percent blocked. Interventional Cardiologist Dr. Debanshu Roy performed an emergency procedure that resulted in three stents, and a four-day hospital stay. Rosemary would also learn she had diabetes, but she was determined to make a full recovery.
She began cardiac rehab with us shortly after and completed 34 sessions that strengthened her heart, overall health, and helped her not only reclaim her life but also learn how to improve it. Through our program, she adopted heart-healthy eating habits, learned to exercise at a safe pace, and even returned to daily activities like driving and grocery shopping.
The education she received empowered her to continue the lifestyle changes on her own, which contributed to her weight loss and later diabetes remission. She proudly graduated and now encourages others this to stay committed, trust the process, and recognize rehab as a vital part of their recovery.

In honor of Black History Month, we are celebrating our black saints and holy figures like Mother Elizabeth Clarisse Lange, OSP. Mother Mary Elizabeth Lange (1784–1882), born in the Caribbean, immigrated to Baltimore where she opened a school in her home for impoverished Black children. Guided by deep faith and courage, she founded the Oblate Sisters of Providence in 1829, the first religious order for women of African descent in the Catholic Church. Despite poverty and racism, she dedicated her life to educating Black children, caring for orphans, nursing the sick and supporting formerly enslaved people. Her life is a powerful example of generosity and commitment to serving others.

Our Story

CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Health System was founded in 1869 by the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word. The sisters heeded the call from the Catholic bishop of Texas to care for the multitude of sick, infirm, and orphaned in the Texas frontier. When the sisters arrived in San Antonio, the population was only 12,000 and there was no public hospital - until the sisters founded CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital.
